    A foolproof scam?

A while back, i bought 2 accounts for mariiilus. They were sold SUPER cheap. He helped me with everthing. As soon as i got the account, i changed the email, password, and security question and answer. But within a week, after i bought the first one, i could no longer log in, due to someone else changing the pass, email, everything. I asked mariiilus why this was happening, and he said he didnt know. Wanting to beleive him, I bought another account, and the same thing happened. I eventually posted that he was a scammer on his thread as well as the scam report section. He got banned. After thinking about it, i came to realize the only way he could have recovered those accounts is if those were all his personal accounts, and he still had the CD-Key to them, which he used to get steam support to reset it for him.

My question is this. How can we avoid getting taken in by this scam?

An account can always be recovered by the original owner. Check out the stickies in the runescape account market.

Unfortunately there is no help for people like you. No one has the cure for greed/stupidity/ignorance, even though many have tried via the stickies.

This thread is about steam related account selling, not runescape account sales.

Account trading is some risky shit which is why you ought to only buy from people who are established traders...

    This is the Suggestion section.

From what I've read, you are not suggesting anything, merely asking for something.

Can a staff member move this to the correct section.

OT: Unfortunate to hear about what happened, but considering he only joined on the same month you bought the account, it was expected.

There is not really a way to provide a 100% full-proof transaction when dealing with Steam, other then having to trust the other person and following the current guidelines (Sengira verfication, proof of payments (receipts), etc).

This is about a STEAM account, hence the mention of CD-keys.
