Razer Electra question - Inline Microphone cable?

I am considering buying Razer's new headset, the Razer Electra.

    http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_GB/pd/productID.234280400/categoryId.56404900

I have a question about the 2 cables it uses.

Does this mean the audio cable carries audio ONLY, and the mic carries input AND output audio? Or does it mean output audio only? If the former, what's the point of the audio only cable? Will it product better sound?

Another question is, will it be compatible with my PC? I'm not too sure on the audio cables, but my motherboard is an ASUS P7H55-M. It has a front red/green port and a back blue/red/green port.

    Thanks.

It comes with a green and red plug. The red is for the microphone if you only plug in the green then there'll only be sound and your mic won't work. If you plug in red is vice versa. Plug in both to hear everything and be able to speak :D

    ^That.

Yes it will work, all you need is a 3.5mm green & red jack, which EVERY pc has nowadays. You can either plug it in the back of the PC on the MOBO, or a lot of cases have front audio + mic aswell which works.
No, it won't provide any boost in sound quality. Only thing that is different when only using the green plug is you can't use the mic.(unless ofc you put the red plug in too)

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away.

Ok, I get that. So why is there 2 different cables, if one carries audio whereas the other carries audio AND voice in one cable? That confused me :p

    No no no, :p

The green carries the audio(like what you hear) and the red carries what you speak into the MIC. :p

Oh god.. I feel dumb now. But why 2 cables? All my previous headsets have had 1 cable carrying both voice and audio ^_^ Also, where would the second port be located? Next to it?

Razer Electra question - Inline Microphone cable?

I know that, and no, a normal headset with green/pink connections.

Lol, this thread is full of misunderstanding. I know which 2 ports it uses, but from what you said before, am I right to assume it will use 2 seperate cables rather than 1 cable carrying mic and audio which then splits into 2 at the end? If so, where is the second port located ON the headset?

    OH, OH.
    I get you now. :p

Yes it's just 1(well looks like 1, down the middle is a divider) cable that splits off, it's got 2 cables joined so it's more neat hahahah.

I got hell confused I'm like wut? xD

Razer Electra question - Inline Microphone cable?

Ok, I got the headset today.

There are 2 cables. One is audio, the other is mic + audio as expected. Both cables have a single jack that connects to a single port.

However, here is my problem. The microphone cable only seems to work on mobile devices. There is no real microphone, only a small plastic mic thing on the wire (visible on the top wire in this picture http://tecluv.com/wp-content/upload...phone-Audio-Cable-for-Voice-Communication.jpg)

So is it supposed to work with PC too, or is that how it is designed? If so, how can it be called a gaming headset? Gaming usually involves needing a mic..

The mic cable should work on a 3.5mm microphone port on your audio card. It should be a pink colored port if using a desktop computer.

Razer Electra question - Inline Microphone cable?

This should be the case even though the mic cable is supposed to carry audio too, right?

If I plug it into the pink port and do a quick sound recording clip (holding the mic near my mouth and speaking loudly), and then playback the sound, I can't hear anything. When I swap it to the green audio port and try to listen to the recording, the playback is extremely quiet and muffled.

I tried the mic on my iPod and it worked perfectly.

You may need to set your audio settings to detect the microphone through that analog port. Make sure the analog port is the default device for audio.

I don't know what to do to the audio settings to make that work. I have made the speakers (I am using the back audio ports) the primary device etc. but I can't hear anything when it is plugged into the pink port.

The pink port is for being able to SPEAK into the mic, green port for being able to HEAR sound

    windows 7.

I know, please read the thread.. It JUST picks up sound when it's plugged into pink (but it's absurdly quiet) and I can't hear audio at the same time.

The front audio is not always connected to the Motherboard, try the ones at the back.

And the inline one cannot receive incoming sound I'm pretty sure.
