To be honest, there are a lot of things that could happen in 2012. But that's just it, they could happen.

The only things that were really scientifically investigated or proved were the Solar Flares and the Pole Switching. The Flares may take out a few satellites, and the Poles obviously haven't killed humans off in the past so we can assume that it won't this time.

All of the things like the Mayan calendar ending and such are most likely just coincidental. I doubt an ancient civilization, advanced as they were, could have possibly predicted the "end of the world".
