    Diamonds = Future?

    So as you all know, diamonds are the hardest substance found in our planet.
    It is made out of Carbon. Apparently, labs can produce Diamonds using Graphite!! Yes, Coal to make Diamonds!. These two share the same property, however the Graphite will need to undergo in a process in which it is heated and placed 3 miles down pressure is equivalent to.... like the Eiffel Tower turned upside down and the tip and all it's weight on coal = diamond! well thats just an analogy. Anyways, I heard that they are trying to make diamond coats on everything, such as screens so they can never be scratched!

    There's a lot more uses for diamonds then you think. As far as complete diamond coating goes; that will never happen. Too expensive, time consuming, and quite frankly not worth it.

    Realistically, that would not happen. Even though they can produce artificial diamonds in laboratories, it is still extremely difficult to produce a large yield of diamonds. Also, the production process is intensive and costly, meaning it may be cheaper just to mine diamonds and cut them. Finally, it would not be good news for the industry, as the value of diamonds would depreciate greatly if they were produced and used on a large scale.

    As others have said, diamonds are right now cost way more to create than they are worth. I do believe people should research how to make the in a more efficient manner, however.

    It is more likely that carbon nanosheets will take over. They are extremely thin (Like nanometers thin, we are talking millionths of a human hair.) and have so many uses.

    This would be a massive scientific accomplishment to be able to create the kinds of forces needed to forge a diamon-substance from raw carbon.

    Yah, even though now diamonds cost a lot to create in large quantity but a long time ago steel was expensive and was expensive to produce so maybe someone can come up with an extremely efficient way to create diamonds kind of like when they mass produced steel

    Don't spam your post count, vader.

    Anyway, as a lot have already aforementioned, the prices of diamonds would depreciate, and it'd already cost more to mass manufacture than they're already worth. Although I'm quintessentially impressed with the leaps and bounds of technology. We need to explore the Amazon rain forest a hell of a lot more though - indubitably it would be a huge triumph to have findings from the billions of acres that are yet to be discovered.

    I'm surprised they haven't started using diamonds in certain aircraft to strengthen the chassis to withstand greater amounts of force. If they have i'm ill informed :p

    Though diamonds may be the hardest substance we know of, they aren't exactly the most versatile. First off, synthetic diamonds are still time consuming and expensive to produce. I believe a more competent solution would be carbon fiber, which is also extremely time consuming to produce, but is more flexible in its uses.

    Havve you ever seen the Mythbuster's episode where they made a diamond?

    The explosion was I think a ton of C4 and the resluting diamond was tiny - I mean, like, too small to even be a jewel or something. It was only good for industrial and medical use

    Def not worth it as long as there are still diamonds in the ground
