Discuss? Do you think they'll be back in a few weeks? And what do you think about RSBot 3?

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I've heard a lot of different estimates. I don't have much experience with reverse engineering so I can't say much about it, however from what I do know I can take a guess that the for-profit bots would be back in a week, maybe a week and a half if they invest as much time into it as physically possible. The free bots I'd probably say 3-4 weeks simply due to having less incentive to update.

Mostly based on my experience with WoW's botting scene and common sense, don't take it as fact :)

It's the client that needs fixed, not any particular bot/script.

Interesting to read that, I've a feeling that's a truthful estimate.

I don't know what to believe really, especially from lots of rumours that go around about the whole RSbotvsRSbuddy thing that went on. Hm. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

It's not so much the client as the method used to obtain the information from the client, the way that developers were grabbing the information they needed before the nuke is now completely useless.

Imagine you built your own operating system (similar to Windows or Linux) and once you had built it, you started writing programs for it. A few years later, you have hundreds of programs available but you lose the source code for your operating system and at the same time your hard drive crashes. You have to write it all over again. The way your programs are made is still fine and once you've rewritten your operating system they will all work again but the base which they run on has to be completely redesigned.

That's the problem we have here, only with the additional complication of Jagex promising to try and stay one step ahead of us. :)

Is Powerbot really capable of "rewriting their operating system" though, as your metaphor goes?

I don't know, to be honest. I can't tell you how able their developers are.

The sensible thing for people to do would be for bot writers in all communities to just get together and work on solving the problem as one team. From what I understand, TRiLez has already begun this with BenLand100 from SRL but it's 25 to 1 in the morning and so I could be thinking of completely the wrong names there.

Time will tell and I strongly believe that either everyone will get there in the end, or BCEL will go the same way packet injection did ;)

I guess only time will tell! :p

(Just realised you used the exact phrase "Time will tell" FU power of suggestion)

14-28 days, longer then the prolonged period of RSbuddy's waiting time.

Guess we'll just have to wait.

Why do people still use Powerbot after the hacking incident?

Or am I misinformed about what happened.
