What is League of Legends?

This is still a work in progress, hoping to have this completed by October 23rd so that it can be stickied as a "what is LoL" guide. Pictures coming soon.

League of legends is a FREE, popular and growing real time stratergy game, that places yourself along with up to 9 other people in an arena to battle agaisnt.
Abbreiviated to "LoL", the game is a spinoff of the Warcraft III map "Defence of the Antients"or DoTA.

The Basics:
-Teams can be 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, or most commonly, 5v5.
-In order to win, you must push your minions down the lane, massacering the other defending minons, destroying the towers and inhibators down each lane untill you reach the nexus. Destroying the nexus ends the game. This is known as "Pushing"
-By killing minions you gain gold and levels, which you use to buy more powerful items for your champion, and give your champion skills in order to. You gradually gain 1 gold per second, but dealing the killing blow on minions with your champion gives you a certain amount of extra gold. This is known as "Last hitting"
-There are 2 people on each side lane, and 1 opposition in the middle, the middle lane gains the levels the fastest so that they can carry their team, and kill the enemy team mates on the side lanes unexpectadley. This is known as "Ganking"
- You have the choice to pick 2 summoner spells for your use in game, these spells can range from supportive heals, tower invunrebilitys, teleports and speed boosts. Use sparingly, as most have long cool downs.
- You gain a total of 18 levels, 4 points go into every skill, with 3 points in your champions "Ultimate" the "Ultimate" can only gain skills at levels 6, 12, and 18.
-At a little deep of each lane, or "roads" is a tower. The Towers function as protectors to stop you from pushing the lane easy. Towers are extremly strong, especially at low levels and can be detremental to a champions health in the majority of the stages in the game, especially if the character is a "squishy" or a weak health hero who functions as good damage dealers. The towers will damage you if you come to close, or attack it without any minions nearby. If you are ranged and cast a spell or an attack on an enemy champion near the tower, the focus will change to you. Some champions have enough health and armor to be able to attack an enemy "Tower-Hugging" champion, this is known as "Tower-Diving" which, at early stages, usually results in both champions dying.

How do i win the game?
-Patience. Make sure your team have the right "Type" of champions, i.e. one "Tank" - A strong Healthed bulky hero. A few Damage dealers, and a support. With a good line up of champions, it is easy to win.
-In essence, winning the game is as simple as killing the towers each lane, and then destroying the inhibator.
-The inhabator at the end of each lane, when destroyed, will make your base spawn "Super minions" for that lane, which have 5x the health and damage as normal minions. The inhabtors respawn after 5 minutes, so make your final pushes during those stages.
-With a team mate, push your minions so that they take the damage from the towers, instead of you, and then attack the towers, you may destroy the towers early or late in the game, it varies.
-The team may surrender at the 15 minute mark, but at least 3 people must agree to surrender the game, and let the other team win.

Team fights.
-Team fights are large battles of all the heroes in the game, it is important to not get stuck in the middle of a team fight, if you are not the right hero.
-The purpose of a team fight is when all the champions end up being in the same place, and go crazy at eachother, generally, this is when most champions use their ultimates. If you sucesfully wipe out their whole team during this fight, you can do a push that is generally detremental to the opposing team.
-Stay on the outside of the team fight and support your team as much as possible, attack the enemies that seem to be dropping low in health, and heal your team mates with the appropraite protective skills. There are alot of tips and tricks in this game to help you, but il let you figure those out by experience.

Since he is banned would any one mind if some one (perhaps me) kept going from where he left off? I wouldn't mind finishing it.

 

I was considering doing it myself, but I have a lot on my plate atm so it wouldn't get done for a while. I would be more than happy for you to do it. I want a basic LoL guide, similar to the WoW guide in the WoW section but not as big, to be stickied here. Go for it Bubba.
