What effect will the release of DoTA 2 have on LoL

A few people think everyone will move to DoTA 2 when it comes out, which I think is just crazy. I never played DoTA before LoL and I'm pretty sure a large portion of LoL players never played it either.

Just interested to hear what type of effect you guys think will happen to League of Legends when DoTA 2 is released in November.

 

I also never played DoTA before LoL. It felt like only a certain clique was allowed to play DoTA, whereas LoL is more noob-friendly.

 

LoL will lose a few players same with HoN.

I don't know how it is over in other areas, but @ my school, only a few people play DotA.
Now with LoL. It spread like wildfire here in my school. They've all never played DotA, and only play LoL just because their friends do. I hardly doubt any of them will switch over to DotA. :\

 

note: I had only played a few games of dota before i spent all 2010 playing LoL, i then switched to HoN in janurary because its a more challenging game, i have played all 3.)
LoL is mainly for Kids, and it is compared as the "Baby" version of HoN and DotA, because there are a lot less game mechanics, (such as denying, int,str,agi heroes) and the graphics look cartoonish in LoL. DotA "fanboys" would much rather play Heroes of Newerth then LoL, because it is much more similair to dota, then LoL is,
LoL players would probably play one match of dota and think "this stinks" and quit.

To answer your question, im sure Dota2 wont effect LoL at all, considering Dota will be pay2play, and LoL will remain free.

On the other side, im sure 100% of the people who paid to play HoN will swap over to dota2, and the rest of the community will just be the free players.

 

Nothing significant. LoL community is too developed and too many people have spent too much money on the game.

In the first weeks a few will leave to test out DoTA, but many will return after a while.

Ive played dota for years, it is hard at first because of all 52 heros and each having unique skills, but after a few weeks you learn every hero and to me it is the most competive game ever made. You guys gotta understand that LoL and HoN were ripped off of DotA, im not hating on those games but personal preference is dota way better gameplay once you get into it, cannot wait for dota 2 release.

 

The release is not going to have an effect at all due to the amount of time and money people have invested into playing League of Legends, and even though DoTA is a competitive game, the current competitive scene especially for these types of game will always be in League of Legends.

 

Maybe a little decrease but not much. Personally I'll take a break from LoL and give Dota2 a chance but if I don't like it I'll be back on LoL.

 

I think a lot of people will give DoTA 2 a shot and a take break from LoL. Some people who came from DoTA backgrounds might move to DoTA 2 but I think the people who has no DoTA background'll most likely stick with LoL. The 2 communities are very different.

 

A lot of the professional gamers will move to DotA2. It already has as big a tournament scene as LoL and its still in beta ( I think?) 99% of the casual LoL players will stay though.

 

DoTA was the GREATEST I loved that game and that's the reason why I tried out LoL I can't wait to get DoTa 2 but that doesn't mean I will quit LoL I will still play both games

 

Being an ex-pro in both DotA and LoL, and having played LoL exclusively for the past 2 years, I can safely say DotA 2 won't touch LoL.

I got access to the DotA 2 beta from a couple of old DotA pro friends and tbh i haven't even touched it in 2 weeks, because LoL is just so much more fun and more accessible. It appeals to a much different and wider audience. However, DotA 2 will kill HoN.

My 2 cents

 

The skill cap for dota is too high for the general public to want to play.
Mostly the pros will go to dota 2, the rest will stay with LoL
LoL is alot more newbie friendly, easier to start than dota or hon.
