Is it truly more beneficial in terms of education to attend a single-sex school?

    Why or why not?

Sure, I go to an all-boys highschool.
First of all, it's very comfortable not having any females in the room. We attend our classes in our underwear, dress into our PE uniforms anywhere, fart, belch, and publicly announce that we have to take a shit.

Second, it helps us concentrate on our studies. There are always the females who want to stand out, so they have heavy makeup on and wear their school uniform skirts very short, disrupting our attention. This is not the case with an all boys school.

But, of course it has its cons.
We don't get the experience of learning how to handle members of the opposite sex, the habits from #1 might stick, etc..

Don't think so. If you really are focused on your studies you won't get easily distracted by a short skirt or some heavy make-up. Thing is, most of the teens now aren't really interested in learning while they are at school so they just find something to distract them.

Also, hanging with the opposite sex can get you some different point of views/opinions that you wouldn't get from the same sex.

I don't go to an only-boys school, though there are only guys in my class; and it's very relaxing.

But on the other side, it also disturbs a part of your social.. thinking? w/e

I would just say that it's more distracting with good looking females in your class (If I see a nice ass or tits my attention seems to gravitate towards it!), luckily I'm in this higher learning program so there are no good looking girls and I can focus really well. (But before this program, oh boy was I distracted, I would spend a good 1/4 of the class flirting with girls beside me.) I think having a single sex school deprives kids of interaction with females, you shouldn't be nervous around girls, with that kind of attitude I can't really see anyone getting close to a girl. But hey, take no offence to that statement, that's just my opinion.

    I know so.
In my country, students who attend same-sex schools have higher grades on average, than those that don't.

The exceptions are co-ed schools that have separate classes for each sex

at the end of the day your overall outcome education you receive from school, is DOWN TO YOU. not whos around you, you have to put the put the effort in, distractions will always be there, the opposite sex is just one example. attending a boy-only school may remove 1 distraction from the equation, but you'll soon find another one to replace it without even noticing.

i personally went to a mixed school, and much preferred it that way, you dont deprive yourself of valuable social skills with the opposite sex, yet can still achieve the same or better education depending on your dedication.

In the FCAT(Florida Comprehensive Assessetment Test) these were the results of both coed and single sex classes.
Boys in coed classes: 37% scored proficient

Girls in coed classes: 59% scored proficient

Girls in single-sex classes: 75% scored proficient

Boys in single-sex classes: 86% scored proficient.

It seems as though single sex classes have done no harm in the academic area. These results are from the NASSPE(National Association for Single Sex Public Education).

Not what the thread is asking.

    Pro's of Single Sex education:
Most likely a better learning experience
more comfortable, leading to being more confident, which would help students with public speaking problems.
    Less distractions
No stressing out about how you look that day, ect.
You would probably be able to be yourself more, at least that's what i think.Your aiming to impress only yourself, not the non-existent girls around you.

    Cons:
Your missing out on a big part of social interaction, being able to interact with the opposite sex comfortably.
You most likely wont have a girl throughout your schooling ( Most likely, i realise you can meet them outside of school ). Which would lead to having problems in relationships later, seeing as you've had little to no experience.
You would get used to the idea that just because your guy buddies at school think something is socially acceptable, everyone does. Which would be very wrong, as an understatement.

I have never attended a same sex school, but I know people who do and I doubt its a problem. It helps the kids focus on their work without having people of the opposite sex putting mental pressure on them.

On a side note, at a local boys only high school in my area, the kids there get more girls than anyone else around. This is because the all-girls school near by has functions with them and since neither schools gets to see the opposite sex constantly, hormones go crazy.

I can understand the want for a better/more successful learning experience, but I think the trade-off is a bit harsh. Would you rather your girl/boy get a small bit above average mark in a subject and have no social skills in real life, or an average mark in the subject with social skills that will further aid his/her academic knowledge?

Seems a simple choice to me, I would never choose a single-sex school for my child. Social experience and knowledge is just as important and beneficial as academic knowledge.

This is a pretty straightforward argument and requires clear statistics. That's all that needs to be done.

Yeahhh, in the states hardly any single sex schools are around.
why? because we know that enjoying life isnt just about pumping out page after page of mathematic formula, or doing frivolous exercises to increase the time in which we can multiple 9 x 26. Lol the benefits of a single sex school? major sexual frustration.

This sums it up quite nicely. In the end, im leaning towards public schooling > single-sex > catholic school. Religion is a completely different field however.

In a perfect world we'd all be brought into a language-immersion school from the get-go. In Germany, it's mandatory to learn both German, and English. I curse my parents every day (not literally) for not putting me in french immersion.

Would cut down on the number of sexually active 15 year olds. I support.
Maybe then girls will start giving a fuck again.

I spent my high school in an only boys school. Priests as administrators and head of the school. Yes we were pretty disciplined but it wasn't a seminary, just a well disciplined school. What we had, we had a shitload of violence and we always hurt ourselves just for vanity and a lot of pranks. No I guess we weren't that disciplined. But none of us failed in terms of academics, not even close. Women are distraction. But we did lack the physical intimacy and the presence of women so we'd always get horny when the hot teacher was about to enter the room and did her shit. God, now that I remember what I went through that place, no it did not make us disciplined at all just very horny perverts.

Anyway, so much for my story. Single-sex schools is like an enter at your own risk place, it's like hell in there: shit tier military school.
