How long has botting been around?

When did it start?

 

I remember way back when I first started playing in 2000 or 2001, there was a program called AutoRune that was fairly popular. I also remember downloading and trying an auto miner on my main back then, but couldn't really figure out how it worked and didn't like it either.

But botting has pretty much been around since the beginning of RS

 

When sythe started in 2005 it made bots. So probably years before that

 

If there is a game there will be a way to cheat the game.

Botting did not get huge until about 2005 or so. When Aryan came out, it really, really exploded. It was the perfect bot for it's time (it never fucked up and could run 24/7). And it was free. You could run 10 of them on a crappy single core Celeron processor (something you couldn't do with SCAR). But the problem was in how it worked : it literally just sent commands to the Jagex servers, and while that was what it made so perfect, it was also what made it so fully detectable. So about 6 months after it came out, they began to these weekly mass bans, and so that died off... I don't know what came after as I left the scene around then, but that's when the botting epidemic really began imo.

 

SCAR was really the first program I ever saw with any sort of 'botter organization'. I remembered wanting to understand their script talk soooo badly, but i was a noob that didnt know anything about it lol. Anyways, I know that the SCAR community has been effectively botting, (and been organized) since about 2005

 

So 2000 was when it started?

 

Its crazy to see how botting has gotten more advanced

 

ikr lol like in the old days you would have to baby-sit it because of so many flaws now you see people botting 24/7 for weeks lol

 

I remember around 2004 i downloaded a bot, You had to click on the monster you wanted to kill and it would save its colour so anything with the colour you selected would attack it. Its amazing how bots have advanced so much now.

 

Haha this. Bots never really worked tho for me. +If I remember correct you could only run one because they took complete control over your mouse. I left in 2007 and I could say botting was kinda dead then. I came back in 2010 and it was more alive then ever.
So I would say botting as most people know it most have started somewhere 2008-2010ish.

 

i tried using AutoRune also but never worked also got some gay error

 

The proper bots (the ones that could see what was really happening rather then just clicking colors) released around 2005-2006 the fist open/scriptable ones where aryan and SCAR.

What many people don't know is that Nexus (RSBOTS.Net & Autofighter.org client) has been around since late 2006 early 2007.

I thought they kinda released at the same time.

 

The first big popular one was AutoRune, following that kaitnieks made SCAR(Shit Compared to AutoRune). This was early 2002

 

It's been around since the start of rs. There will always be a way to chest on any game, but booting only became 'mainstream' in about 2006.

 

If im not mistaken, the first form of ibot was Aryan, really low req's bot, used to run 4-6 ess miners on 1gb ram pc, that was beast, before that there was scar. All i can remember
