PC Gaming newfag, help me out?

Hello Sythe! I've recently come to the conclusion that my laptop sucks. I'm looking to build a custom PC, nothing too fancy though. I've picked out what I believe to be all I need for the build but I thought I would ask for second opinions. Please note I'm not looking to play super demanding games, but I would like to be able to play games like CoD4, TF2, LoL and similar games at a comfortable fps with little to no lag. Here we go:

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

    Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130254

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

    Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133

    Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145222

    HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

    DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
(Am I missing anything? I have keyboard/mouse/monitor already.)

Sorry I couldn't just take a screenshot, my monitor isn't big enough...

I can't afford much more than that build (~$600 USD.) What should I swap out for better/worse? Is this system even going to run nicely?

Also should I buy from newegg? SORRY for so many questions, as you can imagine I want to make sure I don't waste $600 on something thats no better than my current rig (http://i54.tinypic.com/i1mgdt.jpg)

Thanks, I really appreciate it. If saving an extra 100-200$ to put into it would significantly increase the computer, then I would consider it.

This video card has a better price/performance ratio, even though it's $30 more.

I'm not really going to comment on the processor because I don't really like AMD and don't know much about them.

HD's cool. I'd get a Western Digital but that's just personal preference.

Thanks! I've swapped out the video card for that one. I'd switch to Intel but I don't know much about them either. I'd have to get a different motherboard as well, which is going to rack up a higher bill. Anyone have suggestions which would be a better bet?

I personally have heard nothing but bad about the ASRock Motherboards. I'd stay away from them if you can.

ASrock are a very solid company in the later years. Deff fine to get, Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte, EVGA are the main boards you should buy from /waits for Ivy to remind me I forgot 1 haha/

From who? I've owned ASRock boards for the last 4-5 years and none of them have given me any problems whatsoever. ASRock is basically ASUS under a different name if you were unaware. Both make great motherboards.

Since you invited the opportunity, MSI also makes some nice boards :)

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions. What about the power supply I had picked out? Do I need one that powerful? Trying to save some money since I'm upgrading just about everything else.

I'm not a fan of Rosewill personally. I'd say look at stuff from Corsair, OCZ, Antec, Silverstone, or similar. 750W is overkill for your system but not by an incredible amount. Assuming that you're going to want to overclock a little bit, you could get away with a 600W easily. The AMD cards are much more power efficient than their NVIDIA counterparts. However, imo you might want to still try to stay around 750W because you may wind up wanting to upgrade to a Crossfire configuration later. Knowing that the 6850s are relatively inexpensive, it seems like a good idea if you ever think that you might upgrade. That PSU also isn't that expensive tbh. You're not going to get a PSU worth having for much cheaper honestly.

if you're only using this comp for lower end games then you don't need a lot of ram, most graphically intense games only need 4gb anyway. i would recommend 4gb or 6gb.

8GB is so cheap nowadays that there really is no reason not to just get 8GB (hard to argue with a $50 pricetag). Plus, I think most of us here on Sythe operate under the assumption that someone will be doing at least some light botting.

The X4 955 is quite old now, I have one myself - it's not great although for the price you can't really beat it.

Obviously the new i5 2500K rapes it so hard it's intestines come out, but it retails at $210 versus $120.

I'd probably get a better motherboard for a gaming rig too, probably a new 990FX board so that you can use Crossfire or SLI in the future and upgrade the CPU.

    Something like this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131754

    The GPU is fine.

The case, well, I personally hate that case - looks hideous in my opinion and it's mostly plastic build. I prefer smoother looks but that's your call:

DON'T buy a Rosewill PSU, I don't know how good they are and so I wouldn't trust it.

Memory is all wrong. You have a dual channel motherboard which means either two or four sticks of memory. Putting three in will actually slow the RAM down.

For only a few dollars more, why not double the RAM?

    Mushkin is high quality too.

Hard Drive is a good choice too.

Don't see anything wrong with the rest of it.

Shit yeah, neglected to notice you have triple channel ram for a dual channel motherboard. Use 2 or 4 sticks like paralysis said.

Also, I'd go with a 2500k setup over AMD. Maybe a tad more expensive, but worth it on the performance side.

PShhhhhhhh, I pointed out the ram fault first :(

2500k>amd any day, but if you're on a small budget the 955 is a good proc.
