Need fitness advice

    So heres the story,

    im about 16 now but
    Years back when i used to be in grade school i was very active
    Always playing road hockey outside and doing school sports like volleyball,
    Soccer, Cross country, floor hockey. Basically everything because I had an very small school and you could make any sport you wanted too.

    But the year i came too high school i just stopped and did nothing . I still play
    ice hockey outside of school but nowadays its just
    Wake up, Go to school, Come Back, Check bots, surf the net, and then go
    too sleep. And i rarely play hockey, Maybey once or twice an week.
    Too be honest, ive started to become very self conscious about my weight and strength.
    At the moment i wouldnt consider myself fat, But compared to how
    fit i used to be i must have gained alot of weight, and not in the good way.
    The kind of way where your chubby in the stomach and scrawny in the arms.

    About an week ago i basically assaulted an guy on the ice because he
    intentionally hits my goalie when the goalie went out for the puck(theres no hitting anymore in the league )
    See i would usually consider myself the type of guy who would do the right thing or be the better man and let things go no matter how stupid.
    I also consider myself an nice guy, and have been somewhat taken advantage of that in the past leaving me unable to stand up for myself.

    As soon as i saw my goalie getting hit i just raged inside. All the times i let
    myself get picked on and didnt do a single thing about just came out in anger.
    I guess its sort of an good thing seeing im starting to stand up for myself and others more
    But thats not what im really worried about, what if that were to happen at school
    i still gotta stick up for what i believe in.
    I found out the guy knows ufc,boxing and crap ?
    and at school i wouldint have any of my team mates there or any ref to hold anybody back.
    I know its cliche too go tell an parent or something if i were ever in a fight But i want too take things into my own hand.
    When im older theres not always going to be authority.
    So ive decided to start training, working out and learning self defense.

    Right now my options are Mma, Ufc, Boxing or any sort of martial arts
    im not looking to learn any of these to go attack someone on the streets or something.
    But as self defense and to whoop up an better self-image, I hate being the guy who sits back and takes in insults and gets pushed over.


    Any past experiences or advice getting into better shape and self defense would be appreciated thanks.

    Tell your parents you want to take some defense classes. You should decide what you want to learn first. Try to stay away from a basic Karate class that hands out black belts. You will learn to defend yourself, but not in the way you're thinking I assume. Aikido is a pretty good one, it's all hands, and pretty fun. It teaches you some Japanese terms when you take your test to move up in ranks.

    As far as the fitness aspect, try some running, and lifting. You were in soccer, hockey and said you were pretty active. Do what you did when you were younger. Between that and some classes, you should be getting into healthy shape in only a matter of time.

    do mma, i got picked on and i used that as a way to vent my anger... i cracked 3 ribs on this kid and nobody messes with me anymore

    I do one thing, abs and push ups before showerand sleeping everyday and pull ups in my stairs every time I'm going downstairs, It might be a small goal but it works :D

    Do exercise every time you do another activity and you'll stay fit.

    You said you're about 16 now, that's just normal testosterone acting up through your puberty, it happens to the best of us during that period.

    Have you tried joining like a community league or a league with friend of any sport?

    I go to the gym everyday for at least an hour, whether I workout, run, or climb the obstacle wall, fitness is a necessity to stay in shape.

    OP:
    Actually, authority is something that you resort to when you are old, and violence when you are young.
    Or maybe it's authority when you are very young, violence when you are a teen, and authority again when you're older.

    And as for martial arts, I would recommend brazilian jujitsu or muay thai. I have never learnt these before, but I have heard that they are the most effective when fighting in real life.

    oh yeah, isn't UFC and MMA the same thing?

    I'd recommend Judo as a martial arts, I've been doing it for 11 years now and it has kept me fit and healthy as well giving me te ability to win in a fight. I do not fight much, but if I do then Judo is an easy way of beating someone, rather than kicks or punches it's throws and locks, but they work very well what ever situation you get yourself into. It also teaches disaplin and respect, it's a defencive martial arts.

    Thanks for the support and sorry for the spelling
    I am going to be trying out "A" couple of combat classes
    until i find one that is suitable

    You don't need to take classes to be a good fighter. Fighting comes natural. Classes will help somewhat, but you should already have a way of fighting to begin with. Any great street fighter could wreck a UFC or MMA fighter outside of a ring. Just learn technique and you should be good with the fighting parts.

    For weight, just drink alot of water and do some pushups, pullups, and ab crunches. These will help improve the major muscles needed in fighting. Jumping some rope will also help your balance greatly.

    Urm..
    Nobody is a good fighter naturally, all we know is to punch and kick to hurt them, it's the martial arts that teaches us where to hit, where to put them off balance, how to stop them from hitting us and how to leave them vulnerable to attacks.
    An MMA fighter would destroy a street fighter because of the fact that he/she knows martial arts. All street fighting is, is no rules..

    Simple cardio exercises. Take advantage of the nice weather, jog every morning. Simple as that. Once you're in a healthier state- the possibilities are boundless when it comes to physical training.
