The more I read about the "Deep Web", the more I become increasingly intrigued with the concept of this virtual underground world, hidden just beyond the finger tips of most regular internet surfers. This is honestly one of the coolest, yet scariest, things I have ever heard of in a long time. I am currently reading about Silk Road right now (as I read over some earlier conversations in this thread and got curious) and I am seriously blown away that something like this even exists. I mean, I shouldn't even be that surprised about it, but I always thought that the being completely annonymous on the internet was impossible, and that although things like this surely occured on the internet from time to time, that they could not possibly thrive and survive without being shut down by the police or something. This is so fascinating

What lengths must you go to in order to ensure that you remain annonymous and that your computer is as secure as possible from malicious content? The Deep Web almost sounds like an open warzone, and if you go in there without the proper protection, that your a goner.

 

I agree. I always knew that there was something beyond what I know on the internet, and I believed it to be websites full of things that I am interested in and facts that I know.
But never have a I fathomed something as deep as THIS.

Besides that annoyingness, the Deep Web is over-exaggerated. Worst thing is child pornography.. which is not very publicly available.

 

It is easily accessable. Even hidden wiki link to several different child porn sites.

People go on there to post/sell that stuff anonymously for a reason.. because it's all extremely illegal, haha. If you didn't have to run a proxy/vps/tor to not get hacked/tracked down/identity stolen, something tells me not many people would. Granted, not everything on there is bad, but the people you wouldn't want to run into lurk on there..
