Require proof for number of bots

Hey all, after browsing through the non-virtual items section I noticed quite a few people selling PCs and claiming they can run 'x' amount of bots... and tbh I am quite knowledgeable and KNOW these numbers are pure bull. There's just no way a system with 8GB RAM and a crappy AMD budget processor is going to run 30 bots. No possible way. For this type of scenario, it should be a requirement that the person backs up their statement or at the very least call it an estimate and leave room for speculation from someone who is more knowledgeable about PCs/goldfarming.

I am not trying to open up sales threads to spam from people who think they know anything and everything about PCs but I don't think it's right for sellers to be able to mislead their customers.

idk if this should really be a requirement.... but rather if someone is looking to buy a pc, they should ask for proof of the claims such as this.

I hate false advertisement, in fact. I'll make a suggestion about it in a second.

    Support.

Require proof for number of bots

It should not be a requirement, no support.
If you'd like to ask for proof to him, go ahead.
It should be against the buyer's judgement to decide what he wants and as long as the seller doesn't lie about the specs.
But wait, what if the buyer is not technology friendly and he knows nothing about ram or cpus and when the buyer asks how many bots can 1GB RAM run the seller says "about 20".
That's dishonest and very close to scamming.
A 8gb RAM computer CAN run 25-30 bots. Some bots can take up up to 300MB of RAM memory. But then posting proof shouldn't be a problem because to do such claim, the seller must at least have tested it, right?

If the seller says. I don't have 30 bots to run then he clearly is dishonest and had claimed something that even he couldn't believe.
I am not sure if this would deserve an infraction or even a twc but to lock the thread for sure.
Yes, I changed my mind, support.

Certain bots take up their own amount of RAM... PC with x bots claims should post how much RAM each bot takes up. As for proof, it would be pretty hazardous. If the user is trusted then what he is saying is most likely true and if you have some computer knowledge, you would know to some extent if it's true or not.

    I support.

You would be surprised. There's a relatively trusted user doing this such thing right now, vastly exaggerating the amount of bots he can run in an attempt to boost sales. To the general person who might not be so tech savvy, it might look legit coming from a relatively trusted person. :/

Glad to see you changed your mind but did you check your math there? 300MB per bot is an extremely low amount, seems unrealistic honestly (in my experience, it was 500MB-1000MB depending on the bot/client) but even if I assume that much... 300MB per bot x 30 bots = 9000MB RAM used out of a total of ~8.2GB. Not to mention you have to account for things like the OS and any background programs. With Windows 7 it's usually 1.5-2.0GB RAM for that, leaving roughly 6.0-6.5GB for other uses. An 8GB system is lucky to hit 15-17 bots imho.

Thanks all for the support :)

Ivy Bridge, I agree that it's wrong to simply throw numbers out in the air like that, but in all fairness, there are simply too many things to take into account.

    For example:
    • Botting Client - this plays a huge role in how many bots you can have, TriBot used four times less resources than the nexus client at a stage (haven't seen TriBot recently).
    • Settings and the quality of the bots, some are just going to use more than others.
    • They could install better components just for the screenshot, or even easier just photoshop a higher spec computer.
    • Not to mention differences in OS resource allocation, temperatures, OC'ing and any number of elements.

All I'm saying is that it's very difficult to actually implement anything to judge this by. It's really up to the buyer to do their research. This is partly why I started this thread: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1236245

I don't claim for it to have the exact figures, but it's more of a general guide line that anyone can contribute to. I know you deal with a lot of hardware so I'd appreciate it myself if you could add to any of the details.

This at least gives your average user an idea of how much is utter BS, because as I said, I do agree with you^_^

It's not that big of a market that you would need to require proof. If you want proof, just request it.

If there was a baseline set for computers for each of the main use botting clients that could be stickied I could see this.

I would say Support, I would help people who arn't tech savvy but would like a nice rig, and its pretty much a false statement IF said pc can't do what he claims

You should be able to figure it out yourself or

    A) go on google and search these things
    B) Ask someone, overclocker forums etc.

This would be a waste of the staffs time, searching + locking + warning people about this.
