Evolution or creation: how did human beings come about?

why are we even arguing this subject

evolution has science behind it
it has experiments and empirical studies.

creationism has the church

 

Because for a lot of people, "the church" and the holy books, and their common age old beliefs are enough, and it allows them to see the supernatural behind what everyone else is trying to rationalize with abstract numbers and speculations.

If people weren't so closed-minded to their opposing beliefs, things like this could spark very interesting debate.

 

So you're stating that 5 billion humans aren't unrealistic and delusional?

I for one, have been that way many times in my life. The ability to imagine makes humans this way.

Don't take offense to the fact that humans with religion are delusional. Praying to someone through your mind, by all means, makes you delusional to an extent.

 

I take no offense, I'm atheist.. but neither do I agree with such an extreme generalization, especially when a good number of those 5 billion I estimated are involved in a religion that doesn't have prayer as a stipulation to staying holy.

This is more extreme than saying the 5 billion religious people of the world are slightly delusional at times. This is a very insulting comment to many of those people.

 

Everyone I have mostly encountered is a dumb ass. I do not think 5 billion is far fetched at all.

Creationism shouldn't even be a word. It's trying to make religion as a argument to science on the same level. Fuck that.

I firmly believe in evolution - and I'm a strong Christian too. The evidence simply supports it. Fossils, the variety of species, the need for adaption at key points, it just all adds up to evolution for me.

A different, but IMO more significant question, is the mechanism behind evolution, which I'm sort of agnostic on, whether it's something supernatural or Darwinian or a natural, albeit non-Darwinian, mechanism.

 

That's something that always mindfucks me. What makes it so things follow a pattern of evolving? That question can be linked to literally anything though.

I learned quite a few things taking the AP Biology course and eventually got a 5 on the exam, (which if you know anything about how these exam's work), is pretty god damned hard. Basically, the fossil record is only EXTRA evidence of grandpa Darwin's basic idea. We can see in the embryonic stage, exactly how much we look like say; a fish (not too much, but slightly similar in appearance at earliest stages of development), to say a chimp, (looks exactly the f**k like us).

 

So basically, whatever is the source of the energy that take's the form of sentience, (aka human beings), seems to in it's own nature just sort of 'come about'. There are certain rules and laws at work in the universe, this is where our study of 'Physics' comes from, especially when applied to the Vacuum setting (astrophysics and all relating fields). We do not understand all of these laws, but so far we have used deductive reasoning to trace how it all happened. The fossil record, embryonic sciences, and LOGIC tell us that we emerged as the natural process of evolution took place on this blue rock we call Earth.

 

I don't see how anyone can claim that evolution doesn't exist. You can see it all around us, it has been proven with countless experiments. It has been shown through fossils.

 

While I was raised in a Christian home my whole life, I am somewhat biased. However, to think that the world and all we know happened by chance seems a bit ridiculous to me. I know a lot of you are saying, "Oh, more ridiculous than a 'God' creating everything from nothing? That makes tons more sense". I can see why you would say that, but I stand by my belief. It's too perfect for it to be an accident. Someone, or something, had to orchestrate it.

 

By chance? An accident? Evolution is the very antithesis of these ideas; it is a gradual, nonrandom process by which complexity is able to arise. This can be sharply contrasted to the Hebrew mythology, in which man is created from dust and given life through Yahweh's breath.

 

There weren't 30,000,000 species at this time, to point out the obvious.

 

In other words, life evolved after the flood?
