I don't get what the infatuation is with Jmods, they're simply working class people that happen to work at the Jagex studio, you could work there yourself with the correct qualifications. His password isn't bad either, who would guess that? Although this is quite impressive nothings happened to his account so this is irrelevant.

Thats ironic, considering that Jagex heavily advises against using the same password for your runescape account and anything else. Also - his password is so basic that it makes me laugh. You think a Jmod would have a very heavy duty password combining numbers and letter. GF Mod Kelvin!

They retrieved it from the database when they found out he had an account there, then bruteforced the MD5 hash on his password. Pwned.

Someone should try logging into his account at RuneFest when everyone's inside Jagex HQ. Let the lulz ensue.

 

This is how the majority of accounts for MMOs are hacked. They go to fan sites, and hack those accounts, and people are either using the same password for their email, or their account for the game itself, either way the people can acquire there account from the information they've gotten.

MarkeeDragon posted an in depth video with a gold farming company or something like that, where he interviewed a hacker and he went into crazy detail explaining everything. Continually pointed out, that the people that get accounts like this for gold farming companies, are the ones rolling around in extremely expensive cars and suits.

Now that I think about it, it seems strange that his password would be that simple. Watch this be a lure by Jagex to track down the people who tried logging into the account lol

 

Yeah, post it if you find it. That sound very interesting. People making loads off of stolen accounts. Ever heard of FailFishes? Guy made tens of thousands selling cash from accounts he phished. Clicky

That would suck, 'cause I logged into it to confirm >.> I don't think so though, knowing how crappy some of Jagex's security is. They don't even have a bot detection system. People making loads off of a company that doesn't care, lol.

 

Hmm I could see that being actually true. Not like they have to risk a JMod account being hacked by giving the password. And it's not like they can access the game on the account and spawn stuff.

 

That's a possibility, but keep in mind even if by chance, the pass was recovered, there's no need for them to take action since nothing was really compromised. Why should Jagex spend resources (okay, one-click ban) punishing players when they didn't even succeed? Unless they're feeling a lil' trollish.
