    Something behind these monks?

As most people know. Shaolin monks are widely accepted as the most skilled fighters in the world, they devout their life to training, and hence can do pretty damned amazing things.

Now my question is, besides the training, do you think there is anything else behind this? Shaolin monks believe in the use of Chi, for strength. They are suppose to be able to direct said Chi to any points in their body, making it as hard as steel. Some examples in the vidoe below:

At 0:48, he is able to throw a needle so hard it pieces glass.
At 1:40, his stomach is suspended on a trident, and he comes out fine.
At 1:58, he thrust his throat into 2 spears, hold it there for a few seconds, and like the last monk comes out unaffected.

Nearing the end of the vidoe, it just explains some of their training methods, and how often they do said training methods, and quite honestly its amazing.

Now, what do you think about it all? Simply training? Or something else behind it.

Well it's something that I studied in my psychology classes. I looked into the "mind over matter" side of thinking and its effects on the body and world around people. What they call "chi" can be just thought of as basic natural energy. Focusing on one part of the body creates a strength in it essentially. It requires a lot of intense training to focus on certain body parts.

I'm sure that they don't immediately go and start smashing their faces on bricks either. It's like any sort of martial arts. You start slow and as you "focus your chi", you learn to strengthen parts of your body in certain actions.

However, I don't think he can "survive a spear attack". That was a neutral spear being held down and him pushing onto it. A completely different action than someone thrusting a spear at you.

I'm in psychology currently at my highschool, and we got into the mind over matter things, but the teacher definitely didn't say it was capable of things to this extent.

They really don't use technology so there can't be anything behind it. Its just thousands of years of training and different methods to test you'r body's strengths.

That's some intense shit , makes me jealous. Takes an entire life time in order to be able to focus that much strength to one part of your body. It requires immense physical and mental strength.

These people are subjected to harsh training form early years and do this their entire lives. I think this is all about the INSANE amount of training hours they put in each day, after day after day for years after years. No ordinary person could do the things these people do without years of training.

They must be using super strength potions at 99 strength to achieve such acts

No, but seriously, what the Shaolin monks can achieve with their minds and bodies is hard to grasp, but I would bet that almost any human could become capable of such things. In our modern society, we are less and less focused on awareness of ourselves, our minds, our bodies, and the things around us, and instead we are increasingly focused on the outer world and what is going on elsewhere. Everyone these days is hooked up to the internet, or texting on their cellphone under their desk at school, and we are highly distracted from our own bodies and minds. I don't think there is any major secret behind the Shaolin monks, except extreme discipline and acute awareness of their own self. Their practicies have been around for hundreds of years, and they must spend hours and hours of their lives meditating and exercising both their bodies and minds to be as strong, and as sharp as possible. Thats some pretty amazing stuff.

I have been to see these when I went to China (not these exact people), it was rather amazing watching them train and one of them did actually let me break a stick off of their arm and I did put my full effort into it.

I tried to do half of the stuff they were doing (with being a teenager I thought I could do anything), honestly I almost died attempting half the stuff they were doing m, obviously I didn't attempt putting spears in my throat etc, but I attempted sone of the positions they put themselves into.

I always thought it was the way that they swung the sticks to make it easier to break, but I guess not
Do we have a scientific explanation for this?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'something else'.
This is a form of martial arts. Nothing more, nothing less.
It is truly amazing what these individuals can do.
However, I don't see them as being 'Special Ops Agents' or something.

As I said, mind over matter. Have you ever seen the studies where "angry words" spoken and repeated over and over as ice forms creates jagged edges while "softer words" created softer patterns? The "Chi" is mental energy, and can actually be turned into a form of physical energy, also helped by adrenaline.

Perhaps they tap into adrenaline reserves?

    Jesus.

The part that got me was the punching a piece of paper for 2 hours. After 15 minutes I would give up. Even hanging themselves.

It's hard to believe people like this exist.

I think its pretty awesome how they train
cause they have to be mentally prepared and physically to punch a wall for 2 hours or hang themselves or hit their heads
