Internet /computer problem

My laptop has stopped working. Like everything works on it but I can connect to the Internet. All of the other devices in my house are still connected, so I know its my computer, not my ISP. So what is happening is either when I plug my computer in via Ethernet cable, it recognises that it is plugged in, but says there is no Internet coming through. I kNow that it is not a bad plug, because I have plugged my friends laptop into this port and it worked fine. Also when I search for wifi networks, all the networks that should come up are there, but when I try to connect it says "Windows was unable to connect to (my wifi name here). Once again I know this is a computer problem, because my iPad (what I'm on now) and cell phone can still connect to the wifi. My laptop is a Sony Vaio model number VPCF120FD and I'm running in windows 7. Please help me if you can. Oh and earlier this month I had to replace my Internet card, because of this same problem, but I don't really want to keep spending 25$ every two weeks on a new Internet card. Should I just get a new computer or is there a way to fix this? And don't just say restart it or any crap like that or I'll report for spam. I have restarted it.... I'm not a dumb ass. Please help D:

 

So I assume you've tried resetting your router?
And also checked for a bad cable?
Is your system time set correctly?(it rarely matters, but no reason not to have it set correctly)
What is the make/model of your computer and internet card?
Have you checked your internet options and dns settings?

Start with the basics.

 

make a new connection as in ; set up a wireless, broadband, dial-up,ad hoc, or VPN connection?

 

I had an IT guy come in and look at it and im sure she would have covered all that. I even did a system restore. Also now its been on and off. Sometimes i can connect, sometimes I cant

 

Don't assume, check it yourself.

It may also be a problem with the RJ45 on your laptop.

It's kind of weird that it won't even work via wired connection. The fact you can connect sometimes and not others shows that your settings are correct, so they shouldn't be the culprit. None of your other devices are malfunctioning, so it can't be the router.

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with the network adapter. The only thing I can think of is to tell you to call Sony and see if they can help you troubleshoot it (more than likely you'll need a replacement/repair if I'm right about the adapter failing)

 

yeah the last time this happened, i did that and i had to spend 25$ to buy a new internet card or something. It worked for a month or so now its happening again...

 

Yeah I meant network adapter. That's what the sockets called.

 

Windows 7? If so:

1. Go into your network settings
2. change adapter settings
3. right click your LAN adapter (the one it's using) and hit properties
4. click configure
5. click the advanced tab
6. find speed & duplex on the list and change it to 10mbps Full Duplex

Hit ok, then reset the lan adapter and see if it works. If that doesn't work, bring that setting even lower (half duplex or 5mbps).

Let me know if you can't find the setting.

 

Same happens to me sometimes on both my desktops and laptop but not at the same time. I just waited it out the day and it works again. I tried everything, waiting is the best solution to me. How long has it gone without working recently?

 

i know how to fix your problem, but it appears that my computer is working.... for now.Its worked all night. Ill just wit and see how long till it stops working again. I should just get a mac
