    Goodbye YMCA.

I'm basically leaving my job at the local YMCA here, after three years of hard work and dedication to the association. My boss, the Youth and Teen director of only 3 months, decided it would be beneficial to the department to prune the staffing in the [only successful] Clubhouse program in which I worked. As of tomorrow, we've always had two staff members working 5 hour shifts each weekday, and one saturday worker for 6 hours. One (me) would work in the computer lab/homework tutor room, and the other in the gameroom.

It was a wonderful setup where the two staff members would keep each other company during slow times, and cover for the other when needed. Basically, we would keep our sanity's in check as dozens of little monsters run around and kick us in the shins every step of the way. Everyone was happy under my supervision as our boss lady was always "busy" with other important matters. For this reason, I was self-proclaimed assistant director, and did EVERYTHING that needed to be done for the Clubhouse. I did attendance, scheduling, staffing, budget, and anything to do with the Clubhouse-- even often times by our boss lady-- was run through me first. I oversaw the repairs and replacements of our laptops and gaming equipment, I rented the room out to thirdparty users who wished to hold meetings or events in the two rooms (including birthday parties thrown by members for their children on Sundays). I think you get the idea of how single-handedly crucial I was to the Clubhouse.

All of this is going away tomorrow as the new schedule stipulations starts, which supersedes the next 9 months of scheduling I made not 6 weeks ago to encompass all of the following school year. The new schedule consists of one person for both rooms per day, effectively spreading 6 shifts a week among 4 staff members. What does this spell for me whose schedule-- in conjunction with everyone else's-- only allows for Mondays, Thursday, and Fridays each week? Who's college schedule then excludes the possibility of working Thursdays and Fridays due to chemistry and physics lab? Oh, that's right; 5 hours a week. Down from 35 hours a week during school, and 40 hours during summer. Oh, pay no mind to my 400 dollar a month car bill, nor my college tuition (thankfully covered by Financial Aid for the next two semesters.... besides the 150 dollar books I have to buy).

Couldn't get much wor--- oh wait! Three days ago, my boss lady decided to fire one of the staff members without letting me know. Oh, pay no mind to the next three shifts that belonged to him which now I have to scramble to find covers for, nor the fact that the other two employees legitimately have prior engagements. So I literally had to forget about saving the saturday shift, and have to train someone completely new (and hot, but super bubbly and annoying) to cover the friday shift. But whatever, shit happens, it's done and over with, moving on.

So why, boss lady. How could you possibly justify this desecration of the perfect balance I've worked 3 years to establish? Would you like to know her explanation?

To which I mentioned the schedule conflicts, and the fact that I will now be relying on Unemployment to help me with my bills.

    Well she didn't like that.
She's threatening me! She will fire me before she allows me to cost her more money by applying for unemployment checks. I will not stand by and let her demolish my chance at attending college. As soon as I find another job, she's out on her ass with no experience available to her to run the only successful program besides summer camp in the entire Youth and Teen department. I will not train a new employee. I will not share the files I've been keeping, required by our sponsors in order to renew our annual grant fund. I will not spend my life, my time, my sanity, nor my energy in holding up the pillars of sand she's created.
    Good bye YMCA.

    We've had a good run.

P.S. thanks for the free staff shirts and 2 dollar program sponsor shirts, they've literally saved me a shit ton of money in the clothes department

P.P.S. I want the money that was "withheld" on my first two weeks of work, damnit. I've looked it up, and there's no such thing as "employment deposits" you greedy bastards.

P.P.P.S. Beardman quit two weeks ago too, so I have no further reason to stick around, really...

So, do you have an experience with less than ideal bosses?

I don't think that is quite appropriate, as I doubt they play that song too much. Also Josh, Soheil fired you because you're a prick. He let you off with too many infraction-worthy incidents that you've caused. Despite your rudeness to customers and lack of notable punctuality for your shifts, he kept you on the team. Now, since he was fed up of all your mistakes and fired you, you have the gall to go and call him a "total jerk"?. Unbelievable.

Good thing JohnK and I are starting your presidential run, soon.

    On topic:

My boss where I worked (at a fitness gym) was fine until a month and a half ago. He started depending on me to call him for my shifts for that week, and he always insisted that I call the gym's number instead of his personal number. Towards the end of my employment there, he would hintfully not answer the phone, which led me to missing quite a bunch of shifts. I showed up once, and he told me to just go home because it was a slow day. As much as someone else would love this, I didn't because I had few shifts at this point in time anyways. A couple days later, I put in my two-week notice. He gave me about four shifts in that time, despite a minor shortage of staff. On the last day he gave me a cheque, we shook hands, and we parted. Haven't talked to him since.

I was actually reffering to my REAL LIFE job in which i worked at a local butcher store as a sweeper, cleaner boy who dealt with the hygene of the place. The whole "RSULTIMATE" isnt really any type of work experience and i would never consider him to be a boss.
But thank you for your accusation and hate/flame towards me, i really deserved it. (not)

Get that sorted out with your boss, tell her you will take her to court if she doesn't give you the money.

Also I don't know about the unemployment thing, but could you not apply for it without her knowledge? If not then tell them what she said, that she threatend you, they should take tat into consideration if she tries to contact them.

Stop doing the work your job description says as well, all the plannin you do etc, just leave it to her, when she asks what you're doing just say "well you've ruined my life (something like that) and now I have to worry about other things. It's also not my job, it's yours."

Did you sign any contracts when you got the job by the way? It often tell you what they can as can not do in the contracts.

    Goodbye YMCA.

They say I'll get it back when I quit, so that's what I'm looking forward to.

As for unemployment, I could have gone about it without telling her, and it probably would have worked out better for myself, but they would have been altered eventually. In all honesty, I could submit a claim to LNI that she's trying to sabotage my income if I had recorded anything she had said. But anything would be hear-say.

About contracts, no I haven't signed anything, my original job description was to help with homework, and play games with kids while making sure they don't break anything or get into a fight. It morphed into higher responsibilities as my devotion to the association developed and I accepted the extra responsibilities as our old Director left, then my co-worker in the computer room left because she was in "Ameri-Corps" which is like volunteer for college hours (she was an AMAZING worker), and we were left with one employee for nearly 6 months........ sooooo yeah. There's nothing I can do that requires a signed contract as proof

If she is treating you that you can not leave your job, than she is wrong and she knows that. She just want you to stay, leave it and do not listen to her.

Polish up your resume, get a haircut/shave and a nice suit out and get ready to start the applying process.

I've already written out a final resume, am waiting to hear back on my application as a ward clerk at the hospital, or a teller at a few banks around here

I'm hoping for the ward clerk job, it's more tailored to my skills, but bank telling would be fine also. The banks are mediocre at best, but still, it's a job
