Minecraft Section ~ Opinions + Feedback

Minecraft is a game with one of the most rapidly growing player bases out there right now. Here on sythe we have a section dedicated to it, however no one really posts there. I know for a fact many people on sythe play the game, as I have seen them in-game and have talked to many of them about it.

The section isn't just for people who have the game though, its for people who may be curious about the game, or have never tried it etc. etc.

Now over the past few weeks I have been trying to revitalize the section. Most of my time spent on sythe lately has been dedicated to bringing it to life. Now I am asking for feedback/opinions on the section. If you could answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm afraid not. I've lost touch with the game, and I feel that whenever I try and restart I find I lose track of what's happened since I left, and what I can do nowadays.
I find it.. believe it or not.. a bit complex now. I think that if there was a post explaining what has happened in the most recent updates, such as 1.8 (because as far as I'm aware, quite a lot did, then )

Also, give it more priority over other forums - move it higher!


~What do you think can be done to bring more activity to the section?

As I suggested above, make a post explaining recent updates and such, so old-timers such as myself who bought it in Alpha, played it to 1.1 and then kind of.. phizzled out, can start the game refreshed!
It is harder for one to unlearn and relearn, than it is for a newbie to join and learn. Unless the community make it difficult for the newbie to learn.

I think you're doing a good job. Try inspiring some people, however, by screenshotting, for example, awesome structures of yours, or creating a series of videos and sharing them.

This isn't 2010. The game was as big as it ever would have been. It's already past it's prime in my opinion. It gets extremely boring very quickly. (It lasted me & Lyt maybe 3 weeks)




~Do you post in the section often? If not, why? Because the game is dull and I'd rather not post in a section that has no activity / interest to me.

Make minecraft fun again.

Nothing interests me enough to discuss it.

I don't think there is much that can be done, honestly. In my opinion it is the type of game that there is little room for discussion.

I think it has made some nice improvements on activity but still is inactive for the most part.

 

I do kind of agree with Lym though - I believed it's prime was when simplicity was the key. Gone were those days.

 

I would have to disagree, minecraft is still rapidly gaining new players.

And the fact that it was so simple is why it got boring so quickly, they are adding more depth to the game which will allow it to thrive, and continue to entertain people for longer periods of time.

 

Yeah, this new hunger system is total shit, for example..

For starters, I need to stabilize Sythe's server, then we need to get as many users to play with us as possible. That will pique interest in the MC forum for those people, and hopefully if the forum is hoppin' more people will give it a try.

I have started to. I didn't post before because I wasn't playing MineCraft.

Please don't tell me, you get hungry and you have to eat food.
That would be absolutely retarded.

Last time I actually played a little bit is when they released weather.

Any big updates since then (Other than you can use the portal to go into the nether in multiplayer now)

 

Achievements, towns, bigger mines, probably some new blocks, the use of redstone.

NPC's, quests, skills, and levels are coming in the next update.

I doubt the hunger meter will stay much longer, Notch listens to feedback, and im sure everyone feels the same, its horrible.

 

Yes, food no longer heals you, it fills your hunger bar, and you regenerate health half heart at a time. The speed at which it regenerates depends on how "full" you are. Alternatively, you lose health when your hunger bar is empty

I'm trying to become more active in it. I love minecraft, and there's always something to talk about. I really wanted to post some build pictures but the server I played on eventually closed (Public #2 Yogscast).

 

That would be really cool if you posted pictures of your creation, those are things that the minecraft section really needs.

It's own dedicated server, competitions with prizes, advertising in signatures. Oh, getting me on board too.

If you look at how fast the Yogscast and other youtube Minecrafters have expanded due to their affiliation with Minecraft, I would suggest following that sort of route to bring in users. However, I don't think many of those people would be interested in joining a cheating site. A Minecraft video community wouldn't be all too bad.
