And I thought my collection was big. I have 2 full 2TB drives and am working on a 3TB. Your's is spread across multiple drives from the looks of it. About how much total data would you say you have?

 

Put some of those in mirror RAID and keep the best or obscure stuff on them, because otherwise one day a drive will break and you'll lose some nice things.

 

Nice, but why so much external? Do you really take them anywhere with the exception of maybe one or two drives? You could have saved a lot of desk space and clutter by just going internal on most of them.

Shoulda put them in an older computer and made yourself a decent server so you could watch your collection from anywhere.

 

How do you connect them to your PC? SATA? USB 3.0? Thunderbolt?

Would be sick if you had a thunderbolt connector for those babies.

 

I thought thunderbolt was an Apple product/program that connects your laptop to a iMac screen? Looked at it briefly, I'm probably sorely mistaken lol

ALso, they've already made USB 3.0? I just bought an HDD enclosure that was only USB 2.0 :<

This is crazy amounts of data, I wouldn't be patient enough to sit through all the downloads necessary in collecting that much GBs of movies and music.

That is a ton of storage. I got 1tb and it isn't near full

 

You'd probably waste more time organizing and downloading your shit then you would spend watching it. But OT, how much did the 500gb and the 1tb ones cost?

 

I used to think that about thunderbolt too, but thunderbolt can pretty much be used by any system. It is capable of crazy speeds too.

USB 3.0 has been out for a few years now, however there is just now more and more support for it. A lot of motherboards are exclusively USB 3.0 now (usb is backwards compatible too, so a usb 2.0 product will work with a 3.0 slot).

 

Impressive, yes, but I don't really see the point in storing so much.
