User search fixed

I suggest that the search user function be operational again..

Not sure why its not operational and if theirs a good reason ok I understand but theirs been so many times that I'm looking for a sythe user and cant remember their full sythe name or just a part and try to search them and get
"this function is disabled due to abuse"

I'm not sure how it could of been abused??

I dont understand so if their is a working search engine im sorry for this post and I will delete/lock it//

But I'm not sure where that is and how to use that function.. sorry for the bad suggestion if thats the case.

 

You have to go into Advanced Search to search usernames.

Search > Advanced Search at the Nav bar on the top.

 

I think it was removed from the past, when people abused the search to crash Sythe.

 

It was removed due to DDOsing capabilities.

I support bringing it back with like a 30 second wait. But you can just go to

"Search this forum" -> select "All sythe.org forums" -> type user name and there you go.

Or just google "(username) sythe"

I never had any problem without the memberlist search, I always used advanced search or google and was able to find them right away. Even if there was like a minute wait I think it would bring down server speed a ton, that is why it was removed in the first place.

Other than that, had you taken the time to look through the declined suggestions, you would know that this has not only been suggested and denied in the past, but it has been suggested within just the past couple of weeks.

Not going to happen. It can be exploited to crash/lag the site.

 

From when I was on staff, I believe a contributing factor to it being disabled was also the 05/06 account recovery problems; people were able to recover specific types with ease, and the search function made it possible to find these particular accounts.
