Operation?

Hey guys,

I just got back from Hospital and they said if my stomach on the right side is still hurting me the next day, I'd have to go back and probably have my appendix taken out.

I'm quite paranoid about this operation, I'm very sure I'm going to have it, and I've never had anything like this done before. I know there's way more serious stuff other than having your appendix out, but I even fainted when I was in hospital earlier when they were telling me about what would happen.

I know I'm not gonna die or anything, it's just all I can think about at the moment.

Is there anyway I can stop myself being so worried? Or if anyone here has had their appendix removed would they mind sharing their experience here?

I had my appendix removed a few years ago, it's nothing to worry about at all..
I'm a bit weird and don't really express pain, so they were cautious on deciding to it out or not. In the end, they did.
I wasn't allowed to eat for 12 hours, but I ended up not eating for like 23 hours because surgery was really busy.
Anyway, I had the surgery woke up with a few stiches on my stomach, and that was that.. No major pain or anything, it's just like having a cut on you knee, it hurts a little bit but you can put up with it perfectly fine.

The worst thing about the whole thing was my dad coming in eating sandwiches, I was uber hungry.
That's about it, nothign to worry about really.

 

That sucks that your so worried bro. I can sort of relate, I absolutely hate hospitals. Just the sight and smell of one makes me feel queasy, and I hate having to stay in a hospital or have surgery. I've had a number of minor surgeries over the years though.

As for your appendix, the organ itself is fairly useless (this can be argued now though) so you will not die or have a lessended quality of life because you get your appendix removed. The operation itself is a very safe procedure, as millions of people around the world every year have their appendixes removed. Besides a slight scar along your abdomen, after a few weeks/months, you will never even know that you had the surgery The surgery is also quick and painless and you will surely be sedated so that you sleep through the whole thing. When they sedate you, it literally just feels like you go to sleep and wake up 5 mins later with no memory whatsoever (and feeling a little bit groggy and high off the anesthesia). So don't waste your time stressing over the prospect of having this operation. If the doctor decides that you need to have yours removed, I'm sure he knows what is best for you and so you can trust him.

But i heard that organ basically has no use to our bodies, other than the ability to kill you if it ruptures I think,
Even though what you're going through is saddening, but shouldn't be anything to be too worried about.

 

Smoke a bowl or get drunk.

Either way, you'll be hungry as shit or get too hammered to even care.

 

Not the best of advice, but it sure is an alternative,
Maybe after your operation, why not

 

Thanks everyone so far, I got up this morning and I've been ok pretty much, but I have had the odd moment here and there.

 

Haha, I got into a skateboarding accident last december and fractured+dislocated my left foot. I had to get surgery that would get me metal bars implanted in my foot, so that they would keep my bones together.
I'm going back to get those bars removed, as my bones are in perfect shape and I wont be needing them anymore

But seriously. Surgery is nothing to be afraid of.
It's not that painfu, either, as you're under anesthesia/asleep during the entire process. lol

Get high or drunk right before the operation so the anaesthetic could kill him! Idiot's like you should be using this section of the forum..

 

I don't smoke weed, but even if I did I wouldn't do this. Isn't there a rule for what can be posted on this forum? As I came on here for advice about my operation I might be having soon, and instead I get idiot's telling me to smoke weed.

 

I'm pretty sure its against the rules to reply with totally useless advice, and encouraging others to use drugs. I saw a thread in the suggestions section about some guy complaining about how many people actually respond with "get drunk/high".

 

You'll be fine, the surgeons are extremely highly trained. Its just a minor routine surgery. You just have to keep your chin up

 

Woke up this morning, pain hasn't gone away so my parents are gonna take me into hospital again and most likely into surgery. I was seriously hoping it would just go away.

 

You'll be perfectly fine mate, don't worry about it, all your pain will be gone, it's not like you need your appendix anyway, unless you're a fan of eating raw meat.

 

Well, just got out of Hospital, they say it's not my appendix as it keeps getting worse and doesn't get better. They think it's something to do with my stomach itself. I have to go back for an x ray soon. But at the moment I'm ok.

It's probably nothing major bud, if you don't have to have the surgery that's good. Tell us what the problem is when you find out though
