    Fitness and Nutrition.

I've been searching through sites all over the internet, and I always get the same answer. I decided I would come here and request help from people who actually can give me a solid answer to my questions, as they're real people and not some scam artists trying to sell me something.

    1. What foods can I eat that are healthy. "Good tasting foods".

    2. Will protein shakes help build alot more muscle when I only do about 15 minutes of jogging on a treadmill, 100 pullups, and 100 ab crunches a day?

    3. Is drinking 1.5 liters of water a day enough?

    4. Is sucking on ice cubes when I'm hungry a good idea?

    5. Is store bought frozen chicken (actually chicken, not breaded patties or KFC wings) cooked in the microwave healthy to eat?

I am just wondering these few questions. I will also post this in the sports section to see if the response time may be quicker, as this section seems a little more for computer stuff.

    Thanks!

    1. There are many healthy, good tasting foods. Here's a brief list:
Meat: Lean beef, tuna, turkey, chicken, etc.
    Dairy: Yogurt, milk, cheese, etc.
Grain: Grain breads, whole wheat pasta, etc.
Fruit: Banana's, apples, oranges, pomegranates, etc.
Veggies: Celery, avocado, carrots, broccoli, etc.

    2. No. You don't get muscle by eating protein, you get muscle by working out hard! You need to start doing exercises like bench press, chest flies, squats, deadlifts, bicep curls, tricep extensions, etc. Protein plays a very important role so make sure you drink your protein shakes after each workout, but to actually get muscle, you need to stretch and break your muscles.

    3. It depends on your body weight. Personally I drink 2L+ a day. I'd recommend between 1.5L-2.5L. However don't exceed 2.5L.

    4. Why not? It's just water.

    5. Yes! Chicken is high in protein and many other important vitamins. Eat as much chicken as you want! Why don't you throw in some mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables while you're at it!

    3) Aim for a lot more water than 1.5L if you're doing exercise.

    4) Horrible idea. You're just dehydrating your body + not filling you stomach at all. Just keep drinking water when you're hungry.

    5) Not really. Most, if not all, frozen food is incredibly high in salt, which isn't too good for you.

I don't wanna diss your post man, but you're wrong. First, ice is just frozen water, there's nothing dehydrating about it. He's not using it as a meal replacement, he's just munching on it. Second, frozen chicken may be high in salt, but that's actually a good thing, especially if he's upping his intake of water. Salt helps retain water, and if you don't have enough salt in your diet, you will become very sick. Sure a freshly roasted BBQ chicken is healthier, but for convenience sake, frozen chicken breasts are an ideal replacement.

If you want to be healthy, there are many changes you should make, but I don’t know about going vegan.

It probably would work as long as you get the right amount of macronutrients and essential fatty acids.

I actually believe meats are very healthy for you. Saturated fat is good. Cage free eggs are excellent.

    Bread/pastas. not so great.

    1. Try lean proteins such as chicken breast and steak. Also have fish and a variety of green veggies and fruit. Berries are your best friend especially oranges and apples they help burn fat.

    2. Try for 30mins a day physical exercise. Like jogging alone. Remember even if you weigh 100kg jogging shouldnt make you die. Jogging should be done at a pace where you can have a normal conversation with some1 else.

Protein shakes will help muscle growth repair. Thats how you build muscle, By doing excerise the muscles tear and rip and new muscle grows and over time you get stronger and stronger. Try push-ups as they are a perfect way to increase strength

    3. Drink as much water as you can per day as it increases your metabolism and will not make you hungry.

    4. No.. -.- Its stupid.

    5. Buy the fresh stuff, always the fresh stuff.

Protein shakes are consumed simply to assist in muscle recovery. Yes, I'd recommend drinking a shake within 30 minutes post-workout. However it's a shake is definitely not necessary.

    3. Is drinking 1.5 liters of water a day enough?

    No.

    4. Is sucking on ice cubes when I'm hungry a good idea?

    No.

    5. Is store bought frozen chicken (actually chicken, not breaded patties or KFC wings) cooked in the microwave healthy to eat?

No. However if it's already pre-cooked (not raw) then heating it up in the microwave is fine.

Just to add to Simple's post, it is very true, the science behind it is that sodium is needed for the body for fluid retention, it is in mostly all isotonic sports drinks ( such as gatorade, powerade), these have about 4-8g of CHO per serving, to replenish glucose rapidly, as well as Na+ ions ( sodium ions), to maintain the Na+/K+ balance ( sodium/potassium balance) in the body, as you lose sodium when you sweat, especially exercising.

It is crucial to replenish your Na+ ions to help keep the fluid retention, or else you will just piss it all out!

    - Another thing, why hasn't anyone addressed the problem with his "feeling of hunger?"

    - One question you have to ask of yourself is, does your diet contain enough fibre, and are you eating 6-7 well nutritioned meals per day?
If you spread out your meals, as well as maintaining fibre and eating Low G.I foods, you shouldn't have that problem of ever munching on ice, seriously, get that checked!

Nutrition is a huge part of the training program. I personally recommend a low “GI” diet, which basically emphasizes a diet high in lean protein, low in saturated fats and it encourages lots of fruit, vegetables, grains and pasta with a low glycemic index (under 55). While on this diet I have personally felt the most energetic, there is no sugar crash, no mood swings and you can keep going for a long time. Resveratrol

Finally! I was reading all these posts with some bad information and I was like, damn, people really don't know about nutrition that much! It made me a little angry :p

So okay here we go let's answer some of these questions:

What foods can I eat that are healthy. "Good tasting foods".

There are so many healthy, good tasting foods out there, but people's taste buds are so used to fatty, good tasting foods, that they get used to them and when they taste healthy foods, they deem them as nasty!

When it comes to healthy we have many that were already introduced here, so the only thing I've got to say about this is; it is definitely more beneficial for you if you know how to cook because you know how to season the foods you cook a lot better than those who don't and make really delicious, healthy meals! Even if you don't know how to cook, looking up simple recipes on the internet will help you out a lot than just going out there trying by youself and putting your kitchen on fire!

    2. Will protein shakes help build alot more muscle when I only do about 15 minutes of jogging on a treadmill, 100 pullups, and 100 ab crunches a day?

Protein shakes are supplements, and should be thought as that. They are not replacements for healhty meals and will not make your muscles grown any faster than an average turkey breast, although protein shakes are recommended most after each workout because they contain more BCAA's than a regular protein meal. After that said, muscle can only grow after it has been tore down to a sufficient level, and not to a point where you are overtraining as well, so it can regenerate itself, and add some extra accomodate the efforts put forth by whatever muscle it is you tore down. (We are talking about thimblefulls of muscle here though! No big bulges grow overnight, it takes months of decation to build an adequate amount of muscle.)

    3. Is drinking 1.5 liters of water a day enough?

It is a decent amount, but depending on your weight and size it might not be enough! More weight = more water! I'm 6'2 187lb and I need approximately 1 gallon a day for my body to feel replenished all day long ;)

    4. Is sucking on ice cubes when I'm hungry a good idea?

This is kind of a two sided answer because, really there is nothing bad about one sucking on an ice cube, if anything it gives you a little bit of extra water for your body to feel replenished, however; the bad idea comes from this. If you are hungry, why don't you just eat?? You body does not lie to you, when you feel thirsty, it is because you NEED it. If you feel hungry, if it because you NEED it. If you are hungry, THEN EAT! The best way to not feel hungry is to determine how many calories you need to eat a day, and then evenly divide them into six equally, timed meals. (about 2-3hrs apart from each other.) If you love to eat, you will get to stuff yourself all day, and never be hungry again! Most people's problems when it comes to gaining muscle is that they are not eating enough! An average adult male weighting 180lbs, about 6ft in height, needs 1800 calories alone to be able to survive, adding exercise, plus daily movements (even while you are resting your body is burning calories), your body might need around 3000 calories a day, and you are there eating 1500 a day, no wonder you feel hungry!

    5. Is store bought frozen chicken (actually chicken, not breaded patties or KFC wings) cooked in the microwave healthy to eat?

Chicken is any form as long as it is grilled or barbequed is always healthy as long as you don't add any fatty oils into them. Now as far as cooking them in the microwave, as long as the chicken goes up to 160 degrees F in the middle of it, then it will be healthy, otherwise it won't be fully cooked and could contain harmful bacteria that can survive when you don't cook it at a high enough temperature.

Well there you go! Hope this helps.
