Runescape [Just a game?]

What do you guys think of this for moneymaking in a game?
And yet runescape still try to squeeze you for cash.

Thats what its saying on Gold4Fun because jagex tried to take them over and there´s a page about it and it says runescape aprox turned over 171million...

You have to expect the company to make some kind of profit from this game, it just turns out they made a bigger one then you would expect. That's probably the whole reason they started this game, wouldn't that be your motive too to make as much money as possible? Not probably the whole reason, it would be the whole reason.

They might squeeze us for cash sometimes but at least they aren't like WoW, making you pay $15 a month and you have to buy the discs to play the game. They obiously would make way more money then Runescape. Plus WoW would increase a chance of becoming addicted because you pay so much. All in all I would say Runescape is pretty fair with just charging $6 a month and you can make some $ out side of the game. Like selling gold and pins to members on sites like this.

Honestly I think they have more than $171 million, they have hundreds of thousands of people paying for membership a month, not to mention Funorb, etc.

 

I feel like getting facts from a cheap goldfarming site isn't exactly accurate... You could work on your sources ;p

Damn, 171 million pounds, I believe it, this is PROFIT Guys, the actual numberfrom membership is a lot more, but they have to pay staff, servers, electricity, etc. I believe 171 million pounds is about right

 

Why is it a problem for a company to make profit from something they've worked on for years? Companies are called "companies" and not "organizations" because their final goal is to make money, not do things for free or voluntarily.

I think everyone is forgetting that this is turnover, not profit.

You need to take into account the costs of the premises they work in, employee wages, advertising, machinery.. the list goes on.

 

It's still not a lot.

 

not really that much if you think about it. Infinity Ward made ~1b from CoD6, which was one game in one year.

obviously not all profit but the point is gaming is a lucrative business. and 250m for 8 years isnt much.
