    Bitcoin mining

I've suggested this to the site owner before a while back, but he questioned the ethics of it.

    http://www.bitcoinplus.com/miner/embeddable

It'd make the site money on what would probably be a pretty decent scale. You could make it opt-in so they have a choice whether to use their extra CPU cycles to help out with the website.

Bitcoins earned could go towards the donator status under your name, as an extra incentive.

Why not give it a shot?

Yes, it's kind of like Gomez Peer if you've ever heard of it.

You run the miner in the background, it uses unused computer resources to 'mine', and then you get bitcoins based on how good/compatible your computer is. Bitcoins can be used to purchase things on certain websites, and may be sold on a site linked in the thread that I linked above.

Blade can you back that claim?

I support this with the choice option assuming Sythe does believe that BitCoin will succeed in future.

    Bitcoin mining

Bitcoin was created by a person who "wishes to remain anonymous." and for a program that expects to take my time and money as an investment, that doesn't seem legitimate to me.
Like all other internet hypes, it'll gain momentum, be big for awhile, and have a huge crash followed by an inevitable deficit and death.
In a worldwide recession, this is not the time for investing in an unpopular currency scheme.
That is the basics for how I'm backing my argument up. I do not support, as it would be a huge waste of time.
Also, the site you linked isn't even bitcoin.
You're mining for someone else under someone else.
That's run by a third party that collects 3% of all mined on that site, so he'd be taking money from Richard as well.
Along with the fact that bitcoin is unstable and does not have a set cash value, I just don't agree.

I didn't even click the link in the OP. To me, it sounds like a good idea. With the amount of active users on Sythe, Richard could make a good amount of money from it, people could essentially 'donate', just by being active around the forums.

    Full support.

BitCoin is quite a big project, it has thousands and thousands of users, and more and more merchants are beginning to accept it as currency. It isn't taking your 'time and money' at all, you do not have to pay a penny, and the operation runs in the background. No money spent, no time wasted.

Even if this does happen, Richard will be able to make a fair amount of money while it lasts.

    There is no investment.

You're mining for someone else under someone else. That's run by a third party that collects 3% of all mined on that site, so he'd be taking money from Richard as well. Along with the fact that bitcoin is unstable and does not have a set cash value, I just don't agree.[/QUOTE]

A 3% loss is minuscule, considering the money Richard would receive is practically free anyway. 1 BitCoin is currently worth $6.XX, even if the price did crash, you would lose nothing as again, you have not invested anything.

I'm not in favor. It's against the law to use someone else's computer without their knowledge.

But honestly, who's going to use it? It just cheapens the site and maybe 1-5 core members will try it out for a week and give up on it.

Imagine how many new users, possible donators, will be turned away when they see a request for the website to use their CPU and for them to register for something pop up?

No support, the earnings would be VERY little, the users would have their resources used and slowed down (remember most of us bot) and the vast majority will not know what it is.
and making it optional so you can "donate" sounds pretty stupid really.
If you really wanna do that then just download the miner and sell the coins yourself.

Unfortunately, I don't know that this is entirely practical. We've toyed with BitCoin in a variety of ways, including looking into accepting BitCoin donations, and it turns out to be a somewhat confusing and convoluted process.

While we like the idea of people earning the site money, it isn't really going to be on a large enough scale to matter.
