You can't take the trolling. I think someone who spends more time focusing on their education rather than posting thousands of times on an on-line forum will not be an inept fool such as yourself.

Basically from their grammar and posting habits. Also, if you can't show respect to someone then don't expect me to respect you.

I love how, when someone's grammatical ability is questioned, they suddenly develop impeccable writing skills and an extensive vocabulary.. You should stop trolling people though, it's highly caustic for the community.

Aaaaanyway, posting this thread gave me a good idea for another one.. It's interesting to see how people judge, but it'd be more interesting to see it in action

Grammar and vocabulary as well as avatar/signature/usertitle is what tells me about users. Like for example, Oxodium changed so much rapidly that I forgot its him and still think that it's other users such as Ricky/Panic.

Sin666 can be another example. From her avatar/signature, she gave me the impression that she is goth when in reality it was not true.

I usually judge based on grammar/spelling and their GFX.

Always look at their grammar and how they type. I remember when I was like 13-15 I would type like this:

So now I do base how someone type. Really though, it's hard to say for sure since it's the internet I mean who knows who is behind each profile and every post made. Not only avatars but what images they put in their sig can reflect a character into mind.

I usually do it by avatar. It's kind of annoying when someone goes and changes it, it takes me a few days to make that picture "Them" again if that makes sense.

Oh and it gets annoying when people all have the same avatar lol, like when we all had Tom Green.

    How do you perceive users?

    The content of their post.

Sometimes, you can just tell after reading ones post that something just doesn't add up. As for grammar and spelling, it's not overly important IMO. Take the 'a/while' technically the correct use on the previous page was a while, read here. However, it's so trivial just like when people use it's and its. It really doesn't matter on a forum.

As for recognizing someone, their screen name. Though there avatar does contribute. It also really perplexes me at first when I see that someone has changed their avatar.

I always seem to judge gender by the avatar - especially if its a girl's face. I keep thinking She in my head, until I learn it's a he. Also Post quality, grammar, spelling so on. It's not so much an indicator of age (me for example) but rather an indicator of idiocy. Also, Post count and join date are pretty Important.

    3. How they act in the spam forum
    4. How they act in the irc
    5. Overall attitude of all their posts

I'm sort've like that I suppose, with the effort they put into their profile [Or Kinae], I also picture $5+ Donators to be scammers, or immature. However, I don't really judge someone until I've had a chance to talk to them directly.

It would be interesting to think what the poster below thought of me.

    How do you perceive users?

I judge people on by they way they type, not their spelling or grammar as I know mine isn't perfect. I used to be terrible at english back when I was in school I had to learn how to write properly on my own as I eventually realised it was important.

The words people use have a lot of influence, such as "kid" I hate it when people call others kid..
I have actually decided not to trade with some people just because of the way they type. How ever if I have spoken to them a lot and I have saw them on cam and heard them, it changes the way I think about them a lot.
Usernames and Images don't really have any effect on what I think about people.

I identify with their avatar/signatures, but if I'm trying to find out how a person is, I just notice how they speak.

    How do you perceive users?

How they type, generally the vocabulary they use if how i gauge age/maturity.

I decide who I "like" by common interest.

Ban evaders by join date, post count per day.

I normally remember people by their signatures, rather than avatar.

    How do you perceive users?

I start to recognize and identify alot of people on this website by their avatar and signatures. Those are usually what stick out for me first, and for many others whose posts I read regularly, and who I engage in discussions with, I start to sort of paint a mental picture about that person's personality based on the insight they offer in their responses, their style of writing, what sections they frequent on this site, and the level of respect they recieve from other members. This whole "image" of the person forms in my mind and then becomes condensed into a visual image, such as the person's avatar and signature.

There are even a few people I have spoken with over Skype, which gives even more insight into their age, gender, and many of their personality traits and speech patterns. Its kind of odd how you come to identify people over the internet who you interact with on a daily basis based on all these little things... I have never really thought about it in this way before. Interesting topic :)

    How do you perceive users?

I would have to say the words someone may use, and like you said how they type as well. Also how much of a hurry they are in. I never like to deal with people that say "hurry up i gtg soon"

    There usernames also help :p
