Downloaded it already, but I gotta find a blank DVD before I can test it out. I've been hearing some pretty good things about it so far.

Keep in mind this is pre-beta, btw.

    Enjoy.

    Windows 8 Developer Preview

For anyone thinking they can install this and replace their current Windows 7 or Windows XP, this is a VERY bad idea. I currently have a split disk on my Mac, in which I run Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, and Windows 7 Ultimate on the other side. This is a Developer Preview only, it will provide very little stability, and generally lack a bunch of functions that Windows 7 provides. Just my input.

Well, I haven't tried it yet. If it's anything like the video, I'm not looking forward to it. The video showed it being touch screen optimized like a droid OS. To be honest, it looked a lot like Windows Media Center with a few extras. I'm just not a big fan of touch screen right now since I can't type for shit on the keyboards. I understand we need to move beyond the old input system of mouse and keyboard; I just feel that things are very limited with touch. I don't expect much from Windows 8, to be honest.

More related to your post though, that download is a version of the Operating System as it has been created thus far, correct?

And LovaTM is absolutely right. If you abandon your OS and switch to this pre-beta, be prepared to run into a whole mess of compatibility and driver issues. You WILL have them. It's called beta for a reason.

SuF said W8 Beta is absolutely terrible.. Hopefully they improve before they release it, and hopefully I qualify for a free upgrade ;-; I really don't want to spend another 299 dollars on legit OS CDs

    Aof right now, yes.
The Beta needs to be worked on A LOT.
I would stick with Windows 7, try the Windows 8 completed versions out in stores to see if you like.
It's based on the Metro UI, from the new Windows 7 Mobile Phones.
    Heavily touchscreen integrated.

Hopefully it doesn't require touchscreen to accurately operate, I hate touch screen computers. They're generally junk.

    No.
You can accurately operate it with the mouse and keyboard.
Easier to swipe side to side on big pages and sites, but clicking wise, the mouse will still be there to do the trick.

Actually, just got around to trying it on a VM. It's pretty cool. The start menu is like windows media center, but the desktop still looks like windows 7. Explorer looks more like msword 2007 and 2010 but I think that will turn out to be a good thing. Ill post more when I get around to exploring it a bit.

Yeah, from what I've been hearing it's like a revamped W7. Also, guys, calm down lol I never told anyone to replace their current OS with this. I figured anyone who would contemplate using it would already know to create a separate partition and shit.

One thing I don't like is that when running certain applications, there isn't an icon for them in the taskbar showing that they're running or allowing quick application switching. Like I'm in chrome now and I can just click on the icon of the virtual box in my taskbar to resume working where as in Win8 I'd have to go to the start menu and select the tile.

Also, When in an application, there's no quit or exit button. You use the windows logo key to return to the "start menu" (which is actually a tile selector like in windows media center). The only other way to switch out of an application suck as BitBox (which I enjoy btw) or 5 would be to alt+tab which is sort of inconvenient.

What I'm trying to say is, the multitasking in some situations needs to be improved.
It seems highly customizable though. which is great. Yes I know I spelled customizable wrong twice =]

I'm liking it so far, definitely seems to run fast on computers with shitty processors (lol my laptop) and the new functionalities are fantastic. I don't think I could use it as a primary OS though.

Why not? Is it better than W7?
