Should I get a Macbook air?

Hey guys, I need some input. I am interested in buyin macbook air, not sure which to air to get yet. Any input and suggestion is greatly appreciated. Help me decide guys. Give me a why and why not ^^

 

If you have the money to blow, sure why not. But there are a few other windows ultrabooks that will be coming out over the next few months which will probably be significantly cheaper than airs with better specs.

 

Sure. The windows ultrabooks won't be as great as they sound. If you are looking for mobility and an excellent platform for college note-taking, then a mac is better than any windows PC.
A chromebook could also do the trick, though
I recommend a 13 Inch - $1300 or $1600 if you have the money to spend on it, but an 11 inch is pretty good too.
Make sure you buy online, because If you want to make any upgrades, you have to use the apple online store

 

Given that you haven't listed WHY you want one, I would have to say no. Unless you have some weird requirements about weight/portability, there's really no point.

You can do any and all schoolwork on a budget Windows laptop for $500 or less. Macs won't game, period, especially a laptop. There are small/lightweight Windows based laptops that are 6 lbs or less, very portable etc. at a much lower cost.

Basically, go for it if all you care about is the brand name. Otherwise, stick to a Windows based PC.

 

Macs can game, very well in fact.

 

Mac are very well used for gaming.
I only recommend a Mac Air if you want the brand name, the portability, the virus-free and always fast type of computer. Then again, also a pretty hefty price tag.
If you have the money, yes. Buy it as it will work great!
If you are looking to save, get a Windows PC as others have told you.

Preferably, I would go with a Macbook PRO, as it will give MUCH better stats for the same price. You will also have more HD, RAM, etc...

Yeah, they can. But you probably don't want to game with the air since it doesn't have a fan (I think). Overheating = problems.

 

The only thing macbook airs have going for them is their flash memory. They're easy to break, no CD drive, terribad graphics and RAM, and it's battery life is bad too

If you're planning to game profusely, then try getting a windows comp, considering mac's usually overheat quite easy.

 

I especially love the macbook air out of all of them, even tested and checked it out. Its really alot different and better from windows as well. I also am getting one pretty soon so I would definitely say yes to your question.
I actually like the fact its smaller and very light in weight even though there are better notebooks out there for the same price but thicker and just unappealing.

Remember you are paying for the brand name.

 

Lol no, just no. The best GPU supported by any Mac system is a 5870 AFAIK, which isn't a super great GPU. On the Macbook Air? I highly doubt anything better than Intel HD Graphics 2000.

Not to mention Mac OS X supports like 1/10 of the games as Windows does.. What is the point of buying a Mac at a premium just to run Windows 7 in bootcamp? Why not pay like half the price, get better performance, and more support...

Macs just don't make sense from a practical standpoint unless you do some audio/video production or have tons of extra cash to throw at a brand name. Even then... just build a Hackintosh.

 

Thanks so much guys. Your inputs are very helpful in deciding on whether or not I should get. I still have plenty of time to decide cos I still got a very old mbp to use atm (like 4.5 years old) lol.

Some background info, I will mostly use it for school work,web, music, and stock trading and that's about it.

 

Then the Mac Air will do it for you.
Like everyone said, any regular $500 PC Laptop can do the job for you with ease, if you want the brand name and want to spend $1,300 on an Apple, then by all means go for it. They are light, portable and great for school.

You can accomplish all of that on a $500 Windows based laptop. You won't get a lot of extra bonuses by going with a ~$1200+ Macbook other than aesthetics.

Basically like I've said before if you've got the money and nothing to blow it on go for the Macbook Air. If not, save yourself the money and buy a mid ranged Windows laptop. Your efficiency will be about the same on both.

 

If you want a nice up to date laptop, sure get the Macbook,
But if you want a gaming laptop, get an Alienware

No, Macs are over priced, any Mac is. You can get alot more for your money with any Windows laptop/desktop.
