Anyone else interested in philosophy? Share your favourite philosophers and or philosophical doctrine you hold true. This thread is out of pure interest of what beliefs you guys have.

I've considered a few times taking a philosophy paper when I attend University but I've been told by a few people that it's pretty pointless, lol.

I like philosophy, but I'm not too serious about it. I mainly like reading about ancient philosophers.

I've never taken/studied Philosophy, though, I find Objectivism to be quite in tune with what I personally believe, and naturally, Ayn Rand would follow as my 'favourite' philosopher, though, given I don't know many it's not much of a sentiment.

Philosophy is great, but there really is no point in majoring in it. The only opportunities that really opens up for the average man is to turn around and teach it. If you enjoy teaching, go for it, but the pay is average at best. If I had time between my other classes I'd make it my minor but tbh I'd rather learn on my own and get finished with my current major faster + most unis charge like $400/credit hour... not worth it to me just out of personal interest. If it were some huge money maker on the other hand..

Alan Watts - love his theories on death and nothingness

Friedrich Nietzsche - Agree with most of his views on society.

Plato - like the father-son relationship theories.

Thoreau - Living life exactly how you would like to.

I really admire all of their their respect towards attainment of knowledge.

I find it interesting to read, but wouldn't really want to partake in it myself.

Plus there's not really any money in the field. Unless you're extremely good you'll end up working in a library or something - though you have a PhD.

It's not pointless at all [well, no more than anything else (philosophy joke lol)]; you should take it. Aristotle is my favorite when it comes to learning more about ethics/morality. Locke is my favorite political philosopher. Keynes and Smith are my favorite economic philosophers. I also enjoy reading the existentialism of Camus and Sartre.

I like philosophy, and I like to partake in it but unfortunately im in high school and those brain dead idiots can't think worth 2 cents, but that's beside the point my fav philosopher is Socrates because his motto was basically to question everything and i strongly agree with that.I also like the fact that he stood his ground, and even under threat of death he didn't compromise his standard.

i have thought about taking a course in philosophy in college idk though

It's a shame schools in the USA don't teach the trivium. When you start early, it is very easy... when you start late, it will a lot harder.. no wonder USA is brain dead lol

I'm intrigued by philosophy, but don't know much about the subject. Would love to do it as a subject, but oh guess what? We don't have it -.-
