    Travelling From CA to Connecticut

Next year or so, I'm thinking of travelling from California and zig-zag my way up to Connecticut.
But I'm unprepared right now, and may need to buy an automobile for a cheap price (buy it in Cali, trash it/give it to a friend in Connecticut)

I don't need anything luxurious, just something that will get me there. I don't care if it's a car or a motorcycle

I'm hoping to spend the least money as possible; any suggestions on where I could buy one?

    note: motorcycle may be preferred.

I suggest a VW Jetta. They're very cheap now, great gas mileage, very dependable, cheap to repair along the way.

Might seem odd, but if it suits yours and your friends needs, look for a Honda Del Sol. They're great for road trips and renowned for their reliability through long ones.

Get a civic or corolla, both with get you there probably the cheapest.

Don't get a Jetta, parts are expensive because their import, in Canada anyways.

    So which model years?
The latest ones are, of course, out of my budget.

They are very cheap for repairs in the USA if you get it done at licensed VW dealerships, but they can be expensive if you try to get them fixed at smaller repair businesses

Honda civic or accord are two more very good suggestions. Very dependable

Look on craigslist. There are literally hundreds of cheap hondas

Craigslist and Autotrader (if you have it there) are usually good places to look. Also look at the newspapers, there's usually a few ads in there as well. As far as which specific car, I'm definitely not the guy to answer that XD don't know shit about cars. A motorcycle would probably be best in terms of price/performance though considering they get amazing gas mileage and are relatively inexpensive. Dunno about repairs though.

Okay, so VW Jetta, Civic, Corolla...
Any idea on what I could do about the insurance?

I don't want to have to end up paying thousands more because I caused another accident, or have to walk the rest of the way because my car broke down :D

Craigslist it. You can usually get a CAR running for around 800 or with easy fixes for around 500 if you know any mechanical work.

Insurance is very inconsistent... I pay 50 dollars a moth for mine because I had to get full insurance since I bought my truck with a loan. It's still cheap though because of the color, the safety ratings, and the sheer size of it (it's less likely my truck will sustain too much damage if someone is stupid enough to hit that monster)... but it's not as low as it could be because I'm still under 21, and I'm traveling a lot, and I have had a few tickets.

Best bet is to leave the insurance stuff to either your parents who should know a lot more about it, or an insurance official... just be careful of getting sold on terrible service without knowing what's going on

    Del! Sol!

    Honda!

VW Jetta parts are not cheap at a dealership, in fact, nothing is cheap at a dealership. Especially because you'll be buying the car used, and for cheap, it won't come with the warranty.

Instead of considering these cars that are cheap to fix and parts are plentiful when they break down, start looking for some cars that are renowned for NOT BREAKING DOWN AT ALL. A Del Sol will go 200,000 miles without breaking down. If a cheap late 90's BMW is in your budget (which if you're considering a Jetta, it probably is!) they will run forever. Yes, they will be expensive to fix, but you won't have to fix it! Win! Plus if you buy it with 140,000 miles on it and put 15,000 on it before re-selling you'll be able to get the same price back.

So... do we have any motorcycle recommendations? :D
Even if I could sell the car back, I don't think that I would have thousands of dollars to spend x_x

Oooooh you're into motorcycles? So I assume you're going on your own then? If so, look into crotch rockets because of their good gas mileage; kawasaki XZ10r or 6r, ducati, ninja bikes etc. If you have a passenger, look into the honda models.

Personally, I'm looking forward to buying my first bike, and it will be this:

That's the kawasaki I mentioned earlier.

hahaha yeah man, I'm one of those crazy asians who drive like a crazy motherfucker and puts other peoples' lives at risk while I'm doing it. Wont happen in the US, at least lol

crotch rockets are awesome, no doubt about it. But it'll do loads of shit to my back if I travel from Cali to Connecticut on one lmao

I heard that there are those cruiser type motorcycles made for travelling..?
note: touring bikes look nice, no doubt about it.
but I don't wanna be no 18 year old on a grandpa motorcycle lol

would going that distance on a dirt bike be reasonable?
