Just a quick question...

This vB version has been like this for years...I was just wondering why we never upgraded it? It's possible to upgrade it within a few minutes without messing anything up..

 

We have had a few updates from time to time (new skins, mobile addition, etc), but I'm not sure what you mean exactly.

The majority of the Sythe Community has been here for some time and generally don't mind the look of the website. When making changes to a website (visually), it's hard to create something that will be pleasing to the majority of its members for an extended period of time.

I am certain we could update the vB version at any time, but I don't see any good reason as to why it would be necessary... or even considered for that matter.

(If this is in regards to downtime, it may be a question only Richard/Matthew may address. I'm not sure whether it involves money, but I know donations hadn't been as high for a while. I've noticed a lot more users have been donating a considerable amount as of late, however. With as much attacks we've had on the website in the past and that which we have now, it's hard to keep up with at times.)

If you could clarify exactly what your question is in regards to it would help.

You think if it just took a few minute to do they wouldnt of just done it?
The whole server would have to go down, and Sythe has found the current version to be the best.

 

Upgrades are causing some major differences, bugs.

So it is better to have one, and just make very minor changes.

 

If it would improve the site's uptime, I'd support. Or is that purely b/c people ddos' us, as Sythe is down a lot.

 

The uptime is due to DDoSing. I don't think upgrading the vB would help much; it might even make it worse, giving each botnet a larger share of the server load.

 

Is there a way to anti DDoS?

 

I believe Sythe set up a firewall/defense against DDoSers but there's no actual way to anti-DDoS if you mean attack back.

 

I'm pretty sure the reason we haven't upgraded is because a lot of our add-ons are hand coded by Sythe and Matthew, and if we upgrade, they won't be compatible. Therefore, countless hours of hard work will be lost and have to be re-coded.

 

Correct me if im wrong, but if its an updated version of vB shouldn't it be backwards compatible with old coding? If not than that is poor software work on the vB side of things.

Anyways, we need to upgrade eventually. Sythe is going to be to far behind in the forum world technology wise if we just keep sitting here.

Too much code would have to be redone and is not that big of a deal at this time.

Honestly though, I don't think its that big of a deal - not many people have an issue with it as of yet.

The database would likely be fucked up as well, due to all of the custom code that Sythe uses. So, it would really take hiring an outside firm to do the upgrade for us, with a guarantee that no data would be lost and that isn't cheap.

 

This, so Sythe really doesnt wanna risk fucking up a good thing just by upgrading to the newer version which really isnt nothing special.

 

It would be nice to have the newest version, tbh. There are shit tons of mods out there for it and tons of cool things could be done.
