I don't understand how anybody can dispute Christ lived. I guess, though, the argument is more than he was not important enough to have such a recognition as his birth year being the change of "eras". But honestly, who was complaining about "BC" and "AD"?

The reason for this is to promote secularization. Christ is a predominately Christian man. Not many Buddhists for example talk about Jesus Christ. No one is saying that Christ didn't live, however, in a secular country we promote and segregate religion from the state. As such, 'Christ' connotes a Christian religious meaning and, as such, has been altered to Before Common Era to remove any disdain other religions may have and to keep in tune with secularization.

This has nothing to do with Christ, it has everything however to do with secularization.

No, this is a country accepting of all religions. The country itself is secular. If you're going to impress this opinion on everyone else you're just as bad as the people you're condemning. Go away.

I live here too, and, you realize Australia is endeavoring and has at times stated that it is a secular nation? This is but a mere step.

I support their decision 100%. It is in everyone's best interest to be represented and this is the best way to treat minorities as equal. No prejudice. It's time for a change, and the time is now.

 

Yes we do accept all religions, I didn't say we don't. I accept everyone as long as they're willing to assimilate. But a lot don't. They wish to rock the boat and implement change everywhere. Am I given the same luxury in their country??? Nope.

BUT, this is a Christian country (we are not run by the church) and I'll keep saying it until the cows come home. And I'll say it again, I'm sick of cowtowing to everyone else who is in the minority, we'll loose our way. This country is loosing it's identity.

According to the last Census (and I'm sure the recent one) this country is predominantly Christian. Why do we have to change who we are.

I'll say it again, if people don't like this country for who we are leave!!

It's one duty as a citizen to change their country for the better as they see fit. And why do you assume everyone who makes to make a change can simply "leave"?

 

The real reason is that this nation, Australia, is a secular one, as such, religious implications should be kept separate. No one denies Christ lived at all, how will I/we regret it?

Because the members of the nation are predominantly Christian does not make it a Christian nation. Islam is closely following Christianity in terms of numbers. Suppose it surpasses Christianity, does that make the world Christian? Comparatively, is the current world Christian? The moment Australia becomes a Christian nation I'll pack up my possessions and leave, if I don't do so beforehand. Both major political candidates at the moment are terrible, and I think I'd die if Abbott had his way. Basically what you're saying is, "it works for this, but not for that."

You're being stupid. Admit it. What you're trying to say is, "they're not doing what we want them to do. So we'll do the same in turn." It's tit-for-tat attitude and childish to boot. I agree that we shouldn't tolerate the intolerable, but you're ignorant in saying this because you believe Australia is Christian. I already put up with enough of this shit in private education.

Furthermore you're assuming it's because of them "rocking the boat" that we're losing the most arbitrary and unnecessary appendage to our dating system. That's incorrect; we're changing it because we're a secular nation, and the change supports secularisation, however small it is. Get over it.

 

I personally find this ridiculous. But I understand if you're don't follow the bible how this could be "politically incorrect".

 

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what the letters stand for, whenever I write bc I don't think of before Christ, I just think of before the year zero. Same as ad, I dont think of anything biblical, and even before I know what they stood for (when I was a lot younger), I just thought that they were a random configuration of the first four letters of the alphabet.

If Australia wants to do it, they can go ahead, it's not like it's going to make any difference to the number of churchgoers or anything.

 

Won't happen, too many countries have laws to protect the people from things like this, that as long as there are people in said country accept religion such as this it will stay and cause a wide spread riot as I'm sure people from other countries would even come over to get involved.
