Tips on how to prepare for a job interview

    1. Be yourself
    - People don't want employees who wear plastic smiles. You want to be hired for who you are.

    2. Take deep breaths before going inside
    - It's been proven time and time again that deep breaths slow your heart rate down and will prevent you from "nervous'ing out."

    3. Hygiene, hygiene, hygiene
    - Make sure you have good breath (but not chewing gum), wear deodorant, and present yourself in a "fresh" way.

    4. Practice the common questions and answers
    - There's no harm in going through and reviewing what you may think your interviewer will ask you. Prepare some well-thought out answers!

    5. Stay confident
    - Interviewers look for people who are confident and comfortable in new environments. They want their employees to be able to adapt!

I have posted this guide on multiple websites. This guide is written solely by me.

Please post some constructive criticism/anything you'd like to add!

I would also like to add that you should use your vocabulary. If you have a good vocabulary and know how to use it, you can pretty much talk your way into a job. Thanks for the share though!

I agree, but lying about having a job previously doesn't exactly please a potential employer.

To a certain extent, this is true. You don't want to confuse the interviewer though.

PS: This guide isn't ripped -.-

Tips on preparing for job interviews

    Not entirely true.

How would you attain an employment status in the first place if you originally did not have any work experience?

OT: Nice simply steps on benefiting yourself I guess.

However these are not limited to what employers look for in a potential employee.

    Good job anyway.

Can confirm that being positive, not having a fake smile, not sounding like a peasant begging for a job, being hygienic, and everything else mentioned in this thread will definitely improve your chances of getting a job.

Well, show your employer your Education Cert.

It plays a huge role in getting you employed if you got no work experience.

Tips on preparing for job interviews

Looks great so far! Ill add a couple of mine that I learned when I interviewed for NASA.

NEVER EVER LIE THEY WILL CATCH YOU! Its great to say things that you have done but keep it short and to the point, never exaggerate your abilities.

Keep your answers to the point. Normally you will get asked right off of the bat "Tell me about yourself"- Give general where you are from what college and then jump right into the related experience because normally that is the next question coming.

Eye contact is a must when talking directly, it can get a little awkward feeling (in my case I was interviewed my first time by 3 people at the same time), but make sure when you address someone you talk to them and don't bury your chin in your chest.

Dress the part, if you are applying for a job that requires nice attire, where a shirt tie and jacket, preferably a red tie because it shows power. If you are applying for a job in a lumber yard, a polo tucked into jeans is fine. Girls NEVER wear anything revealing.

If you have no work experience, relate to something that makes you qualified such as leadership skills or communication. I saw earlier that if you have no experience then you are screwed, do your best to relate to what you will be doing.

Practice the hell out of speaking, in the car, shower, around the house, ask yourself imaginary questions and answer them, working on keeping them short and to the point. Like someone said USE your vocabulary but don't overuse it!

Communication is KEY, give examples whenever possible of how you are a good team player and can communicate efficiently, ALL companies want people that can communicate with others well and work with others.

Get familiar with the company so that you will have some questions. Never answer questions about expected pay and on applications write "will discuss in person" then just say in the interview that you would like to be compensated fairly for the work. If they HAVE to have a number then you give it up. NEVER give up previous pay and try to avoid questions about the negatives and pay of older jobs. This is where practice comes in, say "that was in the past, things did not work out and I am looking foward"

Be genuine and yourself. Not fake. Expect off the wall questions.

Finally, TAKE ADVANTAGE of the opportunities especially in college for co-ops and internships. That is how I got hired for next year. I have been a co-op student and interned every chance I got. A lot of the time they will put you through training and everything like you would be working there. I know here they hire 70% of the returning co-ops because they have the team specific training and have already become family within the office. The first one is always the hardest to get, but after that, the jobs will find you even if you do not apply. IT IS MY BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVISE!

I will throw some more in after easter, my aunt is a interviewer for BAE systems, I will ask her for some more tips!

Tips on preparing for job interviews

In fact, the first 30 seconds of an interview is the most important part of the interview, its how you present yourself to your futur boss so make sure to not shake your hand like a weak noob also make sure to not try to show a fake image if yourself, depend on the job, normally if you apply for a job that there is like 1-50 worker in the box, you need to make sure to sell your cabbage like a boss because you will not be called back after the boss met all the candidate.
