The Government was barely able to bailout GM, this would be a thousand times harder.

Th Government would have to BUY or at least give some kind of compensation to everyone from Sam Adams Brewing Company to the shithole bar I go to every weekend. And thats just for starters.

Not only that but there goes the VAST majority of money made with the Sin Tax.

We're already in debt to our ears, doing this would double our debt in time. It'd be the largest financial undertaking of all time.

How much do you think it would cost? I don't think however that because something is too hard or costs a bit should be the final reason.

With that being said, it would not double Americas debt, pick 13 trillion x 2 or 52 trillion x2 (Estimates).

Oh it would, unemployment would be huge. EVERYTHING would suffer.

    Returants would get less customers.
Bars would be a thing of the past.
    Sporting events wouldn't make profit.
Transportation companys would take huge hits not having to transport any alcohol.

And thats just in America. The world as a whole would take huge hits too. America is BY FAR the worlds largest consumer of alcohol, many of it comes from over seas.

The thing is when people start drinking and they go out into the public it makes it into a problem (drinking and driving is the main concern). However, I do not like limiting the rights of the people and based off of that bias I would have to say no it should not be illegal to own or consume alcohol. I do not have a problem with regulations for people who are not yet mature enough to use alcohol though (children, teens).

By limiting a luxurious right, you are saving lives. Is that too big of a sacrifice?

no definitely not . if you did ban it make weed legal less effects on the body better buzz , no addictive properties and you can't "OD" on weed.

    Should alcohol be banned?

Nowadays people have to travel a lot, and the amount of distance that we travel in most of our daily lives simply can't be covered by walking or riding a bicycle.

    Cars:
    • are convenient
    • boost the development of the economy
    • enhance people's standard of living
    Now for the cons:
    • pollution
    • traffic jam/accidents
    • requires non-renewable resources
Compare this to alcohol. If you make a list of all the pros and cons it has, you will see that it does far more harm than good. Now why do people still intend on keeping it legal? Addiction. They're afraid to admit it, but they like the feeling of being drunk, because it makes them forget all the stress in their heads. This is just another way of running away from your problems, IMO.

So when we argue Pros versus Cons, each one individually is on the same level and weighed the same?

"Free will" get's canceled out by "Chance to OD"?

Who's to say one's free will to do something doesn't immediately destroy all other "con" arguments? Why should one person's addiction to alcohol completely make it wrong for me to enjoy a beer after a long day at work?

Also, why do you assume alcohol is only used for getting drunk? It has plenty of other uses and many people do not drink with the intentions to get drunk.
Also, why can't I use something to relieve stress? Why is alcohol bad for this? Shouldn't this be added to the pros of alcohol?

    Should alcohol be banned?

You didn't even bother to make a pro/con list for alcohol before you dismissed the nonexistent list as folly.

    Alcohol:
    Pros:
    • Relieve Stress
    • Can have fun with it
    • Huge industry behind it
    • Massive traditional religious or formal meaning backing it
    Cons:
    • Susceptible to trolls, retards, and idiots - also applies to cars
    • Makes people drunk
    • can be abused
I think the pros outwigh the cons here too.
The way to solve the problem is to root out trolls, retards, and idiots; because if you ban alcohol, the trolls, retards and idiots will abuse something else instead.

    Should alcohol be banned?

I don't even know why this thread is still in existance. Alcohol will never be banned the government already makes a killing off of it and guess who keeps all the towns thriving. The bars are always busy never have I seen a city with bars and no one goes out. People enjoy alcohol + dancing + friends, you can't beat that.

Just like saying they should ban tobacco.

Also most people who say "alcohol is bad for you" are the ones that are usually under 21 and have only heard from their parents "don't abuse this."

Based off of that logic we should ban many of the luxuries people have and limit freedoms. That doesn't fly with me.

No. Why should I (and any other vaguely intelligent person with an ounce of self control) suffer because other people are too stupid to control themselves? I enjoy having a few drinks, it makes me feel more comfortable and I enjoy myself a bit more. I'm capable of drinking within safe limits, why should I give up that ability because other people can't? People with alcohol induced illnesses, injuries or problems should just be made to pay for their own healthcare (I live in the UK so we have the NHS) and other services required to sort them out. It would put people off doing stupid things and not ruin it for everyone else. I am 16 and I'm perfectly capable of controlling myself and not drinking too much, which I have demonstrated on numerous occasions - If I can do it, why can't adults and pretty much everyone else who drinks do the same? Also, it'll just turn into the next cannabis... The Police will try and fail to control it, it will start to fund crime and eventually you end up causing more problems than you've solved.

No but it should be controlled better by the law.
