It's not whether it's possible, it's whether you'd do it

But if you're worried about your thoughts, that's understandable. What about if your thoughts were private, and you're only linked the internet consciously so you can choose what to put on there... It'd be like using the computer without having to carry around the computer..

I don't think this will ever happen, it's far too advanced, but with the uprising technology, you never know.

Once again, it's not whether it's possible. The question is would you go through with the operation?

No chance.. I can already get it on my phone which I carry with me everywhere.. so technically I'm always connected to the internet anyway. I see no benefit really, unless it could do everything at super high speed.

I doubt it will ever be possible, the brain is very delicate.. plus we are nowhere near the stage of understanding how it works. It's the most complicated thing we know of.

A benefit would be constant connectivity without relying on making sure you're carrying a device around with you in your pocket. You can search for information instantaneously; connect, chat, and share with your family and friends as often as you want; and have 24/7 entertainment, navigation, and other useful apps.

Obviously, you can do all of these things on an iPhone or something, but you wouldn't have to carry around a device to operate the functions, the connectivity would be that much faster, and you can log things subconsciously. Plus, the quality of pictures you'd be able to take with your eye as the aperture, it makes my mouth water...

No thanks I don't need a bunch of pop ups when I am walking around or in class. Oh by the way that is a big security risk that I wouldn't want to deal with. And another thing is being redirected to meatspin LOL.

Would you consider if the OS of the chip made it impossible for "pop-up adds" or redirection to unwanted sites? How how about if it weren't even like the internet as you know it, instead it's like enhanced intuition: say if you wanted to know a recipe for enchiladas, you'd access the part of the brain containing the chip, and you'd suddenly know

I don't see how we would be walking robots... if anything, we'd be walking computers. We'd still be us, skin and bones and personality, only with a microscopic chip-set and the added benefit of infinite knowledge at a moment's notice.

The problem with that is you will basically be susceptible to many parties. Like for instance whoever your hypothetical ISP is. You want a recipe for enchiladas but you can't access it because your ISP blocks that data and instead redirects you to another recipe your ISP wants you to like.

Lag? Since technology doubles in power every 2 years, If you forgot to buy a new operation every 2 years, then you percieve the world with lag, even though it keeps on going at normal speed IRL. How dangerous is that?

Security? You still don't seem able to conceive that 100% security is impossible. A removable device is your best bet, like glasses.

Either way, you seem to be saying that if we find a solution to all of the problems it could have, would you do it? Of course, there is no question about that. People are raising legitimate concerns that cannot be solved with another "What If".
