    Boxing, a dieing sport?

Are the glory days of Boxing over? The sport slowly dieing?

I've been convinced by a friend and a few articles I've seen that it is indeed thinning out in popularity. Where are the Mike Tyson's, Evander Hollyfield's or Lennox Lewis' of today...? Boxing was huge for years and now the biggest star is a featherweight, Manny Pacquiao. It's almost the same with WWE, no stars around and nobody seems to give a damn anymore.

Is the sport dieing or is it just me?

maybe and maybe not.. we still have the likes of mayweather and amir khan that should be going at it in the next 12 months, i wouldent say boxing is dead but i'd say the prime is over

How can you even say boxing and WWE in the same post... shame on you JohnK.

I didn't bother to look up any articles on the topic as I've got 10 tabs open on my netbook >_<... But I think professionally it's extremely dim for multiple reasons - one of them is that there are other sports that are either more attractive, safe, flashy and in the same realm of competitive fighting (e.g. MMA/kickboxing/grappling etc.).but for those actually interested in taking it up (either as recreation or an amateur) interest couldn't be higher.

Boxing is still going strong imo, there's still alot of great fighters, especially the pound4pound one's.

You have many great entertainers like; Pacman, Khan, Mayweather... Heck even the bangers like Ortiz/Maidana are something to watch.

Boxing maybe lacking in the heavyweights though, that I agree. But I think there's still plenty of entertainment in the sport.

The biggest thing in combat sports is heavyweights, they lack that. Boxing is dying sadly. MMA is taking over

UFC has taken over I'm afraid, it adds a whole new twist to the old boxing. They have people such as JSP who will be the next mohammed ali

    Yeah, boxing is oldschool.

UFC/MMA are more enjoyable and more entertaining. It brings more cash, people like it better. Nowadays box is boring, in my opinion.

Wrestling sucks, I hope it die faster than any other sport.

Boxing brings in more money per fight than MMA does. That is why they get payed MILLIONS of dollars per fight, not 6 figures at best normally.

    Boxing, a dieing sport?

Boxing isn't dead and never will die, it still gets huge viewing figures and will always be the main combat sport in many countries so it won't die out.

I much prefer boxing to UFC/MMA, I agree with others though the heavyweight devision is suffering at the moment, for possibly the first time in boxing history it doesn't have clear world class fighters and characters but it'll bounce back though this happens in most sports. Other divisions are still very strong.

Pacman vs Mayweather could possibly bring in monster viewing figures but I doubt it will happen saddly.

UFC/MMA is getting very popular and I like it, it's second to boxing in my eyes though.
