Should alcohol be banned?

Yes

Many parents have lost there kids through drinking. Let me ask all of you who have children, do you really think its a good idea that your child going to a bar and possibly being drugged a good idea?

Statistics-
In 2006, more than 19% of drivers ages 16 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had been drinking alcohol.

Of the 1,746 traffic fatalities among children ages 0 to 14 years in 2006, about one out of every six (17%) involved an alcohol-impaired driver.


In Texas, There were 3,382 death related car incidents and 1,463 of them were caused by alcohol

 

I'd say no.

In my country there are plenty of legalities associated with alcohol and it's one of the most expensive countries to drink in. Not to mention liquor licensing is extremely hard to maintain due to consistent audits by officials.

Plenty of regulation to make alcohol satisfactory in our modern day culture.

 

Many parents have also lost their children due to gang related violence, do we then ban teenagers congregating?

 

No. If Alcohol was banned organized crime would sky rocket.

 

Allow me to post my views onto this topic.

I'm going to attempt to see this subject from both sides.

Firstly, the taxing on alcohol plays a big part in government funding. So banning alcohol would mean the economical climate would plummet even further.

But, on the other hand, alcohol also plays a big part in street violence, such as fighting and public disorder.

So all included, during the current economical downfall, alcohol should not be banned.
If there was some sort of way to ban alcohol, without affecting the economy. Then I'd be in support of it.

 

That doesn't mean that all alcoholic substances should be banned. People who drink and drive are just utter idiots.

If you can drink sensibly, and not break the law while doing it. Then consume alcohol.

 

Alcohol would play a MUCH bigger part in street violence if it was illegal..

No, simply for the fact the prohibition does not work. It encourages bootlegging and gangs. While alcohol's negatives are pretty extensive and the positives pretty much nonexistent, I'd rather have drunk driving related deaths than it become comparable to heroine in terms of how it's regulated and bought/sold on the streets. I'm all for the legalization and regulation of marijuana too. I'd much rather live in a world of stoners than a world of drunkards. Being around someone who is drunk is NEVER fun unless you're drunk too.

The answer HAS to be no. Alcohol consumption is part of GLOBAL culture and has been for thousands of years. Especially American/European. You can't just take it away.

Why alcohol?

Alcohol -> Money to the companies -> you get your enjoyment -> you have fun -> companies have fun

 

You don't want to ban alcohol because of money?

What if the Government were to entirely subsidize and give a bonus to all businesses selling alcohol in turn for banning alcohol. This way, the economy suffers not, and businesses do not for a time. Would that be acceptable for you, seeing as the money is taken care of?

 

alcohol is one of the biggest businesses in the country, worth billions and billions. millions of jobs associated with it too.

It's not just budweiser, theres thousands of winerys and micro brews all across the nation.


The Government could not afford just buying it all out.

 

O I think you've hyperbolized that a bit, but, the Government can pulls billions out of its back pocket. Subdizing in other ways, also. Is your defense really it's too hard and costs too much?
