Should alcohol be banned?

No because the majority of the people use it(alcohol) and marijuana responsibly. Who are you to tell me what I can or cannot do to/with my body/life? It's none of your goddamn business as long as the only person "I am hurting" is myself.

Yea, it was trialed in the 1920's. The problems they wanted to solve did initially drop in severity, but, ultimately after a while they rose exponentially and cartels arose to fill the void.

 

Well, lets say if weed is illegal, then alcohol should be too. Weed puts you in a relaxed state, the most harmful thing it can do is make you clean out your kitchen. It doesn't make people angry/violent, and it doesn't make people lose control. Alcohol does. Take a look at how many deaths alcohol caused, and then look at how many deaths weed caused? Exactly. They got shit backwards.

I use weed recreationally, but also for self-medicating purposes. I have pretty bad insomnia, & bad aggitation, and all that goes away when I smoke.

Can alcohol fix pain, insomnia, or anything? No. And weed helps chemo people manage by giving them their appetite back (and reducing nausea), make them feel better generally, & help grow their hair back faster. What's wrong with the world now'a'days? This should be common sense, especially by now...

Government is completely ass backwards, and since they can't tax it easily, they won't legalize it.

 

I could go either way here. Alcohol has many downsides but I think that it was way too popular to ban it.

 

No, obviously not. The prohibition on alcohol has failed before and would fail again along with the war on drugs. Alcohol isn't dangerous if you are responsible with it but obviously there are people out there that will drink and drive and die of alcohol poisoning. But, that will happen even if alcohol is "banned".

 

Think of it this way, how many people were killed during Prohibition over alchol trades with gangs and such until made legal, being taxed by the govt.

How many people are killed because of illegal drug trafficking (weed) especially in mexico? If weed was made 100% legal, it would save a lot of lives as theres no longer a black-market for it to be sold on.

I don't think the amount of human lives it saves or kills should be the moral or legal standard we hold all things to. This ethical standard is called Utilitarianism - the greater good.

Ultimately, this Ethical system has unimaginable consequences when applied universally, and should not be the system we rest our case on.

We can all sit here and argue about how drink driving,
alcohol poisoning ect. has ruined and ended lives, but lets look from another view. Lets say that it were to be banned. Straight up, theres thousands upon thousands of jobs lost, factories shut down in an instant. Not to mention that when something is banned, it's always going to be produced illegally, so crime rates (might have phrased this wrong) are up. Lets not forget bars and liqour store chains all over the world, what are they supposed to do, sell coke and chips?

Same goes for alcohol, Of course you can say it's bad, when bad seeds ruin it. but it all boils down to people just not using common sense.

 

I don't want this thread to turn into a alcohol v weed thread, so I'm not going to compare the two. Even though I agree that if weed is illegal, as should drinking / smoking.

Alcohol shouldn't be illegal in my eyes, I enjoy drinking every now and then & I don't do any damage to anyone around me most of the time.
If you have half a brain drinking is safe, in my opinion.

Question is, should there be a license to drink? Eh, eh? I don't know actually, it does cause a lot of deaths. But take a look at the facts, drinking in Germany at such a young age is legal, and a lot of people there drink, like, the whole country. Shit, drinking and driving might even be legal. They have the fastest highway in the world, called the Autobahn. If Germans are half drunk the whole time, also using that highway, and their drunk driving deaths are a fraction of ours, it just shows Americans are extremely stupid when they have alcohol in their system.

There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. If someone is going to drink heavily and not have a plan beforehand like for instance: transportation, then that person is a dumb ass to begin with.

 

No, I believe alchohol shouldn't be banned but there should be stricter restrictions on it as selling it to responsible people and not foolish people that drink recklessly and don't think. There are too many dumbasses out there that think its ok to drink a drive. Basically, they are weak-minded and don't think. I never will drink any alcohol possibly ever again just because of it's side effects on me, but I still can say that when I was drunk, I was smart enough not to get in the wheel. They say "Oh yeah I was drunk I didn't know what I was doing". Please put that excuse to rest. However I can say that I did some stupid stuff with the result of alcohol. I chose to drink it so I am responsible.

I will say though alchohol does have a effect on your mobility. Still though YOU make the choice to drink so whatever actions come about it, you will be suffering the consequences.

I mean banning it won't do any good. Marijuana is illegal which is ironic since its basically natural and actually good for your senses. There will always be a way around the system. Everyone should choose their choices but only the people with a normal and understanding mind should be able to have these privileges/options.

 

History will just repeat itself.. people will get pissed off, and crime will start to revolve around alcohol.
