Ever since this morning, Runescape has been running slowly. I'm getting around 2-3 FPS with fraps compared to my usual 35 while recording. I honestly don't know what's changed in one night to create such a difference...

    Help?

    Reinstall fraps.
if that doesnt fix it run a virus scan, defrag your computer & download & run ccleaner.

Run CCleaner from time to time, it finds many errors which slows your computer down.

The game in general is slow, and I've ran Advanced System care, sb s&d, defragged - all to no avail.

I have 16gb ram and 1gb video card, I don't see how this could honestly be happening.

One or more of your RAM cards may have fouled if nothing is helping with your speed so far... You could take it to a local computer specialist and have them run diagnostics, or you can find a program that does it for you (I don't know of one specifically, but I'm sure there's something you can find)

Windows now comes with it's own diagnostic tools, if I remember correctly. I don't remember if you need to insert a disk or not.

Oh you're right, and come to think of it, I think you can do it without a disk via the BIOS settings.. I've had to do it before when building my first machine and the RAM wasn't installing right

My FPS in other games I play seem to be working perfectly, I believe it might be a problem with Java. However, I went to the Java site and it said mine is up to date..

How exactly would I do this BIOS thing?

If you're running a 64 bit system, try downloading the latest 64-bit java program (if you haven't already).

The other thing you could try is getting a client program to run your runescape in and force the java to dedicate more ram to the cause - through a batch file... I actually had to do this with minecraft (weird right?).

Also, make sure your FPS in Fraps is set properly... Click the Movies Tab and choose how fast you're capturing your videos.

    Those are my suggestions... :s

Uninstall Java, then run ccleaner, restart, install java & restart. Re-download fraps too.

Shouldn't have to uninstall java. Should be able to just install over the existing version. And as far as navigating the Bios, it all depends which version you have.

I was running my windows "performance and information tools" thing, and it said something about "running direct3d" something or other. As this was happening, my runescape issue vanished. Will see what happens after it's finished.

After the test was finished with the direct3d portion the issue came back, now I need to figure out how to fix it.

Did you do the memtest and stuff? I've had this happen to me for other games, but I usually just reformat because I keep my stuff small so I can easily change OS's and systems whenever I need to.

And try changing the settings on your graphics card

If you suggest something could you say how I'm supposed to go about doing this something?

At this point I think it has something to do with 3dvisuals. I installed DirectX and the choppiness was reduced, but it's still not at the point it should be.

[I know near NOTHING about this type of thing] Please make suggestions noob friendly.

Okay well what gpu do you have? That will decide how you go about changing the settings.
