    U.S armed forces as foreigner?

    Hello,

Im from north europe, thinking of joining U.S armed forces. Is there any chance joining as foreigner? If not, getting nationality would be the way to, right? And ways should be, living there for ~5years if im right? Getting married to U.S citizen, and/or getting green card. I know these, could anyone go deeper in these or suggest some other? Im currently 18 Years old, and thinking of going to U.S in 1-1.5 years.

    Thanks.

To my recollection, you only need to become a citizen of the country. I'm unsure how the system in US works however. Hope that helps in some way.

No, you do not have to a be a citizen to join any branch of the military. You do however have to have have a green card and be living here legally to enlist.

    U.S armed forces as foreigner?

Well either way, It does take a long time to get either a green card or citizenship. My parents have lived in the US for nearly 18 years, and are only eligible for citizenship in 2012. It took them 10 or so years to get a green card, as well.

I think I would try to get in to some other armed forces. What country excatly are you from? Finland? Sweden? Other...

You can enlist with a green card, as said before, but you cannot become an officer unless you're a registered citizen

What the point to "enlist" if I can't be an officer/soldier ?

An enlistee cannot become an officer, but not all officers are soldiers. A soldier is someone who fights in the war, no matter what their rank is.

If you enlist then you're a grunt/soldier and the highest rank you can receive is a Sergeant Major. The point is we need people to fight, and there are thousands of people with only highschool diplomas or who are troubled youth who'd like or need a place to go. With the benefits you get from the army and the service you do to the country such as paid college tuition, living expenses eased, less taxes, etc; many are willing to settle with being an enlistee.

Then there are people who are good with leadership, who have their college diplomas, and who aspire to be a great asset to the standing forces of the US. These people enter as an officer and make their way up higher in the ranks, get better benefits, etc.

There's a job for everyone, and if all you can get is enlistment, a lot of people would be happy with that.

Anytime:> The armed forces is a great way to excel in life, and serve the world at the same time. I'd suggest you finish some college first before entering though, if you have the time and the money. There's so much more you can do as an officer to serve the country and the world yo

How old are you? If you're still under 18, the US army doesn't enlist unless signed by a parent, and then I don't know what their immigration policy would be with that..

The fact that we are devoted to stamping out worldly terrorism, helping foreign countries, protect our home land, and because every one of the soldiers have more balls than a lot of people.

I was about to say the same thing MohtasaUnique just told. Don kiluminati, im 99% sure your country was never took from you for centuries, being destroyed in your own eyes (in this case my parents), and when you see really really bright other side of the world, where people have their own ideas, ideals, etc. You just KNOW that its the right side, people always take things as "good" or "bad", so in my side of this case, im taking United States as the good.

    Im 100% with you man.

    Im 18 at the moment.

Eh, I'd probably look into it at your local US Embassy. If I remember correctly, Lithuania's a rather small country, so the embassy can't be very far away from wherever you live.

Then you're fine to join when you've successfully obtained a greencard or citizenship.

I just found this too, by the way:
    http://www.todaysmilitary.com/befor...on:SEM:google:Enlistment-militaryrequirements

It's not a government site, so there's a possibility the information is wrong, but I'm sure this is correct info

Okay, been surfing abit on that site and on usa.gov, found out theres only 2 ways to get green card, first would be win it, 2nd would be marrying an american. I don't know how long would both ways take, anyone think going to embassy for a talk about this is worth it? Cause its like 3 hours away from me.
