Help uploading my sig?

Hey guys. So, I just made myself a simple, fast siggy for my profile but it says that the file size has to be 19.5 KB or lower. In order for that to work with my picture it has to be resized to the size of my finger nail... How come other people's siggys are so big? . Thanks in advance!
