Help, account hacked.

My account got hacked and a large portion of wealth was removed [bils]. What I'm curious is what I can do to stay secure now. The account had never been hacked before and was created in 2002.

I logged on yesterday and saw that a few days ago someone from a different Ip had logged on, and I logged on to see all my wealth in my backpack removed, and my pin was in the process of being reset [ 4 days remained].

I stopped my pin from being reset and changed my password. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening again? The password was unchanged on the account. I haven't done anything that would get me keylogged/phished so I'm not sure how this happened.

Run an antivirus program, clear your cookies, always bank everything right before you log out. Keep longer passwords that aren't easy to guess, usually mixed of numbers and letters.

k took care of everything you said. Do you have any clue how this happened? Nobody in game knows my display name. Did I get phished?

 

Run Malwarebytes, and any decent anti-virus program to make sure your clean. Setup new recoveries and e-mail. Obviously don't fall for any phishing atempts.

 

did you use rsbot around the time when free trade came out?

 

Yes, but on a different account, not this one.

 

Could have been a real life friend or if you have the same password on your account as you do on an email. That could of been the cause to. Someone could have honestly just guessed. It's a mystery.

 

It is 100% unguessable, nobody knows my login name either.

I do not know anyone irl that plays rs.

This happened a day after I bought a membership card from someone on sythe. Not sure if it is related, I never let him on the account and applied the code myself.

 

Got a keylogger perhaps? scan your comp.

 

I thought about this, however I have other accounts with wealth that were untouched and I use more frequently. So I think that ruled this out. I also have a keylog scrambler addon for firefox.

avast complete computer scan brought up nothing.

 

Are your other accounts logged into with emails? cause if you were keylogged maybe the guy didn't think about that.

 

I've heard of people guessing recoverys/stalking Facebooks, and considering you'd had bils which equals hundred or dollars, it's possible.

 

If you're carrying that kind of wealth on your characters, and you just got hacked, you should take the extra precaution and wipe your hard drive.

I recommend that to ANYONE worried about security, but you especially because you had/have so much to lose.

When you reinstall, get a good Firewall and very good antivirus. Look into Symantec End-point Protection, not sure how much it is at the moment but it is very good.

 

Anti-virus like everyone else is saying, the best ones are paid ones, i reccomend norton internet security 2011 (ive used for over 6 years and i have never had an account hacked on any game ive ever played and ive played alot of online mmo's
