I want for everyone here to take a moment and reflect on the meaning of this quote:

"After your dreams have all died, and morning isn't mourning, what are you?"

What does it mean to you? What is it saying?

Sounds to me like starting all again, and forming a new life on new goals

But what are you? After you've started again, who are you? The same person, or someone different?

The actual meaning of this quote depends on the person. I don't mean the way a person interprets it, but the way they react to what the quote is saying.

Some people may have all of their dreams crushed and forget about it, but that doesn't mean they'll recover from it.

Others will have all of their dreams crushed and use the emotions they feel from it (mainly anger) to fuel or inspire something else they eventually do. I would say this situation is most commonly seen in any forms of art.

And so what does it mean to you? If your dreams all died, and morning wasn't mourning, what are you?

I'd basically be a man with a new purpose in life, new dreams/goals.

Er, wouldn't that just be someone with no dreams? Aka nothing to strive for.

Perhaps. What would cause you to think it would be? What makes someone without dreams even someone at all? Do we define humanity by the steps one has taken, or the steps they aspire to take?

I think it's from a song... not sure though

OT: To me, it sounds as if the reference to dreams and morning are symbolic of an awakening. It could be a spiritual or emotional awakening, possible after having gone through some sort of hardship ("Morning isn't mourning"). The final question of "what are you" could be asking you to look at yourself and realize what you've become after having gone through both the struggle and the awakening.

To me it means, you awake after a major blow that ate away all of your dreams and goals in life. You fell asleep in the morning, awaiting the new day but were waken at night to realize that your life will never be the same again and from here on you'll be something new.

It means that you have given up whatever it is, that you personally held faith in. You have simultaneously given up on what makes you human.

I said Awake above, but I'd say content, maybe? Over it?
