Question for high school!

I am wondering if there is a specific class or name for learning Java. I would really want to be able to program my own stuff and learn more about how it works out.

I want to learn that programming stuff this year as a Sophomore (10th grade).

Please get back to me before Thursday, as I need to see my school councilor.

 

At my school it's called straight up computer programming...

 

Ask your counselor about it and they will be happy to tell you or give you some direction towards it. They are very useful people and are assets through out all of your high school years. So use them!

 

At my school there was Java Programming 1, then Java Programming 2 then AP Computer science.

Just check with your guidance counselor, they will be able to answer your question better then we can.

At my school we had from year 7 to 11. Microsoft Word, Excel and Power-point, we had a shit curriculum no programming at all. I hope College is a good counter to this.

 

AP computer science is a great course and everything is done within Java. Regardless of this you of course will be taught 'theory' behind programming if you don't know anything at all, however you should have a basic understanding which you do as you say you have already taken basic programming courses.

 

Im in AP Computer Science in my school, and i am also a Sophomore, it is a great class, we started out learning basic system.out.println lines, and then we moved on to making GUI programs and programs with multiple variables like double = (variable like 1 main part of your program) ive only been learning for 4 weeks now and im pretty good, still working on basic stuff like a calculator that calculates your net income, or the width of your room. You should def look into joining a class for JAVA soon, its gonna be past C++ and its gonna be a great thing for later on in life if you are looking to do programming or Computer Science after College.

 

Talk to your counselor and literally just ask, "Is there any computer-programming type classes that we have here?" Be very blunt, it's not like you're asking them to have sex.
