Arrested for stealing 6 36 blocks of beer

EDIT:: Guys what I said came from the heart too, i really do feel bad for the mistake i made. I am 16 by the way.

Here's my story:

2 months ago, my friend and I went on a beer run. I stole 6 36 blocks, and was caught because cops saw my car. They arrested me, but they couldn't find the beer because it was hidden at my friends house. Now I have court on August 17th. I talked to a lawyer and he said most that could happen was charge with misdeamonr, 180 $ fine, 1 year probation, and a stay away from the store.

This is what I am planning to say to the judge something like this:

Your honor, I was hanging with the wrong people, I am not really a bad kid your honor, i was just influenced by the people i was around and ever since then i havent put myself in that siutation anymore because i ve clearly learned my mistake. I don't hang out with the bad people that use to influence me anymore, all i do is surround myself with the good people in my life, and my family.

i thought it was cool, and try to impress people but i learned thats not the way to make friends, all it does it is make you thief and make people dislike you more. The look on my parents face was like a nightmare, their nights of tears, just brought disaster to me because i felt like i let down my parents. I come from a family of great people. A thief is not who I am, i was just looking to be more of the cool guy, but this wasnt the way. I am clearly an idiot for committing burgarly and I am deely sorry.

I had trouble sleeping for awhile because knowing that I am a muslim i should be setting examples for people and especially during ramadan ive been praying for forgiveness. I am disgusted upon my actions..

The fact that you chose to do this during Ramadan is just sad. I am not a Muslim but I do know what it is and why it occurs amongst the religion. I suggest you take more responsibility for your actions. You talk alot about your friends but when it comes down to it, who had the transportation? You. It was your car, you committed the crime therefore you should take responsibility. I am not trying to offend you or make you feel bad, just stating my opinion.

 

Damn, me and my friends go on beer runs all the time. In Texas it's called scamping, idk if it's referred to as that in other places, anyway. We usually just steal the booze from people's garages in our neighborhood, not from a store. I think it's a really good speech IMO. I'm talking to you from the point of view of someone who would be trying to get out of trouble, not necessarily a person who's sincere about what they're saying. (I'm not saying that's who I am, just the POV I'm speaking through..). Just make yourself seem really 'pathetic' and sorry for what you've done. And if you really are, then great. Tears help a lot. ;p I hope you get off easy on this one, it sucks to have something pretty big on your record especially when you're young.

 

Good luck, the same thing happened to me. Your speech is VERY similar to mine, except the Muslim part near the end. I got a 250$ fine, but no probation.

Seriously though, it looks like your using the fact that you were with bad people as an excuse. Just be honest but take responsibility.

 

I really hope that you get an extremely big fine. Speaking from the point of view as a cashier: you're a dirt bag. You know that someone has to pay for that, right? Either whoever was working when you stole it, or the company, someone suffers because of what you did.

Should also get banned for stealing... If you would steal in real life, what's stopping you from stealing gold from people that you don't even know?

The kid would scam irl, where he CAN get into trouble, have a fine, get arrested.. etc. What's stopping him from scamming people he doesn't know, where he can't get in trouble?

 

Honestly your speech sucks.

You have too much repetition and everything you're saying is cliche. I was also arrested back in highschool, not for theft, but I ended up getting off clean.

Just state that you were being stupid and careless. That this is a life lesson for you that you will always remember.

Throw in some of your own bullshit about hanging with the wrong crowd too if you want.

 

I don't think that will work, just be honest admit that what you did was completely stupid and say you will never do it again.

Not in those exact words but you know what I mean.

 

Seriously USA sucks, in UK i would just deny it, and would get away. ( out of 5 times, i was proven guilty only once, and received a warning lmfao )

 

Trust me, things will not go good for you if you say all that. Judges have heard it all and nothing pisses them off more than excuses. You need to take full responsibility for your actions and convince the judge that you've learned your lesson.

 

The judge won't appreciate your blaming it on your friends. I suggest not to make any excuses and just straight up admit it and apologize.

For thieves, I guess it is better.
But in the USA having stricter punishment for thieves is good, more order.

Exactly, try stealing in certain parts of the Middle East - you're liable to lose a limb.

In parts of Africa - they'll maim you; maybe even kill you.

 

No its because they actually practice the innocent until proven guilty system.

Also OP ditch the speech. you broke the law, be a man and admit what you did straight up

 

Take a little more time on writing your speech, fix grammar and grammatical errors. Definitely reword your speech and try and keep it short and to the point. "Your honor To be honest peer pressure got the best of me, this is not an excuse for what I did and I take full responsibility for what I did, but just know this does not reflect my normal character and anyone that truely knows me would know that. This incident has opened my eyes on how much your friends can influence your own personality and since the incident I have began hanging out with a new crowd that will reflect who I am in a positive way."

Staying locked up for 10-24 hours is already enough of punishment, i don't see anything serious about it, specially when its stealing from the store, not from individual.

Seriosuly, if you are worried to get probation for stealing a bear...? Lmfao

 

He pretty much summed it up; I don't see why you're drinking in the first place, Especially since it's Ramadan... As far as for the speech, It's decent; Not too good or not too shabby. Nonetheless, Good luck.

 

The fact that you find it hilarious and downplaying it as much as possible is pretty atrocious... At one time I had that mentality and thankfully I quickly learned the errors of my ways before something happened (like this).

 

If you are a Muslim, why would you drink bear? stealing during Ramadan is just bad but stealing bear just makes it so much worse.

Your speech is weak, Judges always hear this. Admit the whole thing and be honest.
