Should homosexuals have the right to get married?

I think a lot of people misunderstand most religious views on homosexuality. I'm Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic Church does not hate homosexuals, look down on homosexuals, or discriminate against homosexuals. Homosexuals are just as welcome in the Church as heterosexuals. The Church only looks down on homosexuality when homosexuals act on those feelings, such as kissing and the like.

I think a lot of people also misunderstand the human body. Forget religion, forget the Church, even science tells us that two men or two women do not go together. We're created in a certain way, with certain features, for a certain reason. No matter how hard two men or two women try to have sexual intercourse, they never will. Homosexuals can not have sexual intercourse, which also means they can not procreate.

For everyone who says it's all about religious bigotry, science makes it just as clear that a man and a man or a woman and a woman do not go together.

If homosexuals want to sign a piece of paper and say they're married, go for it, but in the end that's all it will ever be, a piece of paper, a meaningless act.

Sexual intercourse is one of the main components of marriage. Creating life is a main component of marriage. You can't ignore that fact.

Most of the people in this forum disregard religious views completely, so I'm giving you a completely scientific one.

Yes, it's a contract between two parties in the most basic definition, except rarely does anyone view it as just that. The truth that you cannot deny is that's all a homosexual couple can ever achieve, a simple paper contract, not a marriage in the full sense of the word.

 

There are numerous heterosexual couples who don't conceive children, both by choice and by nature. Because sexual intercourse for them does not entail the chance of procreation, why should any special status be vested in the ability to have sexual intercourse, as opposed to other forms of sex (none of which are exclusive to homosexual couples)?

What meaning does the "full sense of the word" convey that a homosexual couple are unable to attain?

 

There are no "forms" of sex. There is sexual intercourse, and then there is not. There is no such thing as anal sex or oral sex. There is anal intercourse and oral intercourse, however, that is not the same as sex or sexual intercourse.

The purpose of sexual intercourse is procreation, while some would argue that, that's not the point. The one and only purpose of sexual intercourse in purely scientific terms is to create life. That is why there is special status vested in it.

I did not read any of the replies, but I do believe homosexuals should have the right to get married. I am an atheist, so I believe in no "greater good." If a man and a woman can get married, who is to say that two guys, or two girls can not vow to spend the rest of their lives with each other? I live in America, and when George W. Bush was president he let a lot of stuff not get done, so long as "gays" could not be wed to one another. That was one of many things I wanted to slap him for.

Of course, why shouldn't two people who are in love not get married? Marriage shouldn't be about religion or belief it should be about love and trust and happiness. If two men or women are in love then they should both be able to express that love to the fullest.

You're playing semantics here.

The purpose, as defined by whom? The result of sexual intercourse can be a child, however the cause of it is generally sexual attraction -- the same force that compels non-heterosexuals to engage in sex (sorry, "other forms of intercourse"). Science doesn't ascribe any deep sense of meaning to anything; to say that it does displays a massive amount of ignorance regarding what science is, and how it works.

And now you bring the Bible into all of this.

Human beings are animals. The terms having sex and making love are essentially synonymous. You aren't making any clever points here.

So, then, infertile couples are unable to have a complete marriage (and what about homosexual couples who procreate via artificial insemination)? I wouldn't ascribe too much importance to the opinion of a man who can't even be bothered to google the Thomas Jefferson quote in his signature to realize that it's spurious.

 

I don't think marriage should be defined by the state.

That said, I don't think homosexuals should be denied any legal protection given to other couples.

People should be free to call their associations with each other whatever they want. If a church doesn't want to consider a certain group of people as "married" then they don't have to either.

 

Simply quote can solve this;

I don't know why people wouldn't let them get married.... How on earth does it affect you? Does it make your life worse?

Let them be gay, let them get married, Let them be happy.

 

From a religious stand-point, the act of marriage would be denied of course.

From a modern perspective, times change and religion comes second to societal values.

Even with science, human ties to the animal kingdom proves that we are prone to homosexual acts as all other animals and to say that it is not in nature is quite contradictory as who is to determine right from wrong? God? But who's god? And why?

Society to date has begun to value the voice of the minority as opposed to the past, where majority rule was considered.
