Limit the amount of OMMs there are.

There are plenty of Official Middlemen right now, and there are tons more applying. I can go through the application section and can see about 3-4 applications with 20+ proofs. Not to mention that some of the applicants are Mods (doesn't really matter, but they're almost never denied). I think we should put a cap to how many OMMs there are. The profits for us have decreased, especially with the messed up prices of GP, other OMMs' fees, etc.

Suggestions?

Sounds like your afraid of a little competition, why shouldnt people be rewarded for their trust worthy MMs with a new title. Imagine it was you that was 2 trades away from finished an OMM app, I bet you would be singing a different tune if that was the case.

 

Afraid of competition? I'm probably one of three OMMs that are still OMMing since the opening of free trade. Competition isn't that important to me. Also, your scenario doesn't apply to me. I got my rank BEFORE free trade and nowadays, the rank is just way to easy to obtain.

Either limit the amount of OMMs or make the application more vigorous like before free trade.

 

I think we shouldn't limit the amount of OMMs, but we should get a way of it being more rewarding for the 'hardcore' OMMs. Maybe some new "promotional" ranks for OMMs, such as VOMM (Veteran Official MiddleMan) and LOMM (Legendary Official MiddleMan)? I don't know, but you can't just say to cut down on OMMs because you're earning less than before. It'd be unfair to cut other people's chances if they're legit.

Just thought of something else: as the amount of OMMs increases, so should the amount of MMs done to apply? Nowadays, even being OMM doesn't mean you get to MM 2hrs a day for insane profits anymore.

 

It's not unheard of to close applications; a case could be made that a larger list increases the probability that at least one of them will scam or else makes the application look too lenient - both of which make the site look bad. However, I have to oppose limiting OMM's in the interest of "preserving profits."

The site shouldn't give a damn what its OMM's make - officials run independent services after all, and there's no reason for the site to limit competition. In fact, the easier it is to find MM's to facilitate smooth trades, and the cheaper those services are, the more appealing the market is to prospective users. Although you may not like it, Sythe.org benefits from your decreased profits.

Thus, a case could be made for OMM limits - but I think this would be for the wrong reason.

 

I'm not sure weither I agree with this.
I don't think there's a thing as too many OMM's as the rank is there to make sure a trade go as planned, not to make a few bucks.

 

100% agree with this, more OMMs at cheaper prices = less scams/more happy traders

There are people who have OMM that don't even actively OMM anymore.
Should be a sweep on inactive OMM's and there should a be a limit and it should also be harder to become one.

 

I think attempting to limit the amount of people willing to facilitate a scam free trade just to bump up your profit margin is selfish and putting lining your pocket ahead of the communities welfare.

 

OMM'ing is already bad profit, no one will MM at all if it gets any worse, which it will.
Which makes your point false, That would mean there would be no trusted MM's around.

 

Following your scenario - supply will go back down for trusted MMs making it possible to be profitable again; it's a self-controlling ecosystem. I find it ridiculous that OMMs would be limited simply because they got accepted earlier than others - from what I remember a few months ago many OMMs aren't even actively MMing.

 

It may seem like there are alot of OMMs but when you're trying to find one there are maybe 1-2 that are on and no one really wants to pay 10% for a MM.

I agree with what has been posted above regarding the fact that more OMMs hurts no one (except possibly, current OMMs) and benefits all other users.

This seems to be the common sentiment and I remember people asking for more active OMMs a little while ago.

 

That is very true, I thought of it after I posted.

Tbh though, I think some people only do it for the rank, to gain a little bit more trust.
I think there should either be a limit on OMM's OR it be a bit harder to receive OMM.

Also yearly sweeps of inactive OMM's.

It will make sure only the OMM's that are middlemanning on a regular basis are kept.

 

Quite possibly and I don't really blame them; it's just how the site is.
