I will make a big botting deal, shall I go on?!

    Hi guys,

I've been considering running a massive bot farm long time ago, and you know to run a bot farm I need VPSs. But unfortunately, I've never dealt with VPSs in any kind so I guesses that asking you will solve the problem.

A friend has offered me Windows XP VPSs claiming that the performance will be better than linux, as when I use 16 Bits of display it will decrease the usage of the RAM dramatically so obviously the bots wont lag or so, but the point is that his prices were good, comparing to photonVPS, seehost, etc... . He offered me 512 MB for 5$/M, 1GB for 11$/M and 2GB for 20$/M. He also told me he doesn't over sell the VPSs (< I took ages to know what does that mean, LOL!)

The idea is, shall I go in that deal? I may buy with 200$ at least so I'm afraid it's not worth it.. Please tell me shall I go on or not, and why?!

    Thanks Guys!!
    Please reply ASAP!

Start small with your basic computer if it can handle it. Then, take bigger steps into getting VPSs and go on from there. Never jump the gun. If you do jump it, you'll regret hugely if it doesn't work out.

Good luck and I say to look for better deals with VPSs, people will obviously say that theirs is the best as they want you to be their customer, it's marketing techniques. ;)

i would buy 1 or 2 and see how it goes from there if it all goes well for the first 2 weeks and yo can run them smoothly expand slowly until you have as many bots running as you desire, but you have to take into account the amount of time you will spend setting up the bots/monitering them as i spend a fair bit of time on only 8 bots.

If he really is your friends, then there's no harm in trying his services.

Especially for the price he's offering.

Windows is inferior to Linux for botting. Even Windows XP takes up way too much CPU and RAM. I say you should just use a barebones Linux distribution.

Also, how do you know he won't oversell? Can you just take his word? If so, good; if not, your bots will probably never work. CPU is more important IMO; with my 4x3.3 GHz processor, I cap out CPU at about 6.5-7 GB RAM usage (which includes the disgusting 700 MB that Windows 7 uses alone).

Just buy from PhotonVPS and avoid the overselling/not working well hassle. It is worth the few extra bucks, and it isn't hard to set it up. You can buy 1 month o a 1GB VPS at PhotonVPS just to try and see if it works out. If it doesn't, test out your friend's VPS.

I like this idea. Also, I think you should buy a 1GB from your friend and 1GB from photon and compare them. See if the increased quality is worth the money. Just my thought though

ALWAYS start small. I suggest using PhotonVPS (i'd appreciate linking through my sig) Choose the Xen container, warp 2-3 should do for now, get to know linux as it's superior for botting, your friend doesnt know what he's talking about there. Ask if your friend uses Openvz virtualization for his containers (container = vps) then your running the risk of him overselling and running on a windows os your 2gb wont stretch far.
Use Xen virtualization and choose linux CentOS 5.0+ as your operating system. There are two guides in my sig that will help you. Start with a low amount of bots and risk as running a massive gold farm is a part time job in itself and is susceptable to bans/rolls/downtime/updates/etc that hurt your income. I suggest getting an iphone or a blackberry with a vnc program (some cost $) to help you whilst your busy at work/school etc. Bot farming is currently not very worth it anymore with the current gold prices, unless you have massive amount of low gp/hr bots or awesome gp/hr on a few bots.

I think the same as what other people seem to be suggesting, don't jump into anything too big, start off with a bit then gradually increase it.

i would do it if you have time to "babysit" all the bots and make sure they are running the right way also, what skills do you plan to bot? and how much bots do you wish to run in the long run?

    Agreed

Also, do you trust this person and know them in real life? If not, I would be very cautious.
