Smokin Mils

Today I was just watching some youtube pking videos, and I saw this..



Notice the smokin' mils advert.

What the hell? Have they really gotten that big? I always thought they were a big scam.. Does their merch actually work in making you money?

Thoughts on this?

 

Pyramid scheme.

I used to profit off of them by just buying everything out they did and dumping insanely early, but like I said it is all a pyramid scheme.

EDIT: They also have a dicing clan AND they sell gold on their website LOL. So that could be where a lot of the money comes from, too.

 

Cookies in your recent internet activity effect what you see in ads on sites like youtube and runescape. I'm guessing you visited the site recently and thats why that advertisement is there.

 

The big "merchant clans" use a forum, and have "VIP" users that pay a subscription to the owner. The benefits are that they are told the next merchant item almost a week before the public is told, so they can stock up. As we all know the owners stock up weeks before that. In the end the item is dumped, and some make money, some lose alot.

They just resort whoring out their reputation for every spare buck they can manage.

 

Smokin Mils is no longer a merch clan, primarily.
The give advice on flipping, and investments, but, nowadays they make their money from dicing (they're the 2nd biggest dicing clan on RS, after DD).

They then sell the RSGP, and it funds the website, and allows it to grow.

 

Weird to see a runescape ad on youtube, I have heard that other gold companies have ads as well, but I have never come across one when watching vids on youtube. I don't really want to either.

 

As stated above, the sites you visit determine what ads you see, from google.

Also, Smokin mils as said, is the second biggest dicing clan and therefore they have at their disposale a large amount of gp, which they sell on their website at expensive prices, this always some of the money to go to advertising.

 

Forgot to mention that the info I provided was before free-trade. Since there are no longer GE price limits, these clans have a lot less effect on the RS economy.

 

Pretty much. The public, the ones that generally get the items late and sell late, still lose quite a bit of money. The owners get and stay rich while the lower members get poorer

They are advertising via google ads, who advert anywhere. A daily advertising budget of about 50$ is used. So they are not directly advertising on youtube as you think, somebody who has never heard of runescape will never see that ad on youtube for example. The ad you see is based on your browser history etc.

 

yeah, smoking mils is quite huge now. But most merch clans will end in you having a loss (unless you dump very early)

 

I bought 1 month VIP. It's very much worth it, the investment advice is great. I've turned my 1M into 40m in the last week.

They are able to pay for that advertisment because they are selling the gps they make from buying items before everyone else.

 

If their advertising on Youtube videos it means their making a lot of money of selling gold and VIP.

Free trade was the worst thing to happen to them.

Merch clans from what I rmemebr used to only benefit ranks in the cc, everyone else lost money after the dump.
