Taliban treatment of women

Well, I was on wikipedia as I usually do when I'm not doing much, and I punched on up "Taliban". It was pretty interesting to read, I say you take a look at it.
Anyways, wikipedia linked me to another wiki page on their treatment of women, and I'm all like "holy shit that's friggin terrible". Then wikipedia linked me to a video of them publicly executing a woman....
I mean I've seen gore and all, but I just couldn't watch it. It's bullshit.

What do you guys think about it?

It's no different than gangs doing drive-bys in America. They are executions done by one of the most powerful groups in the middle east. The Taliban. No matter where in the world. Women are treated like shit.

 

Women in the middle eastern countries are treated worse then in the European/ North American/south American countries by a long shot.

Mainly due to the differences in culture and religion.

 

I think women are treated even worse in areas of Africa like the Congo.

But, yes, it is very sickening.

I guess that is why there is at least 1 area of the Middle East inhabited entirely by women so they don't have to put up with that shit.

I have a few relatives that are in the military and one of them was stained at Guantanamo Bay (he is a pilot).

The women guards would have piss thrown on them, sworn at, food and other shit thrown at them. It was sad how brutal they were treated.

These are all things that my relative told me, I haven't seen them myself but you never hear about this on the news either.


Another tid bit about Guantanamo Bay.

If anyone remembers Obama saying the first thing he's going to do is shut down the detention center because of how poorly treated the prisoners are, well, he was making that up.

The government flies in GOURMET food to support all of the different religions there. So if someone can't eat beef, they fly in chicken etc.

They get like a plane full of top of the line food that tax dollars are paying for. In fact, one guy gained 20+ pounds in a month because he was being fed so much better then in his own country.

 

Yea, pretty sickening that theres still this level of discrimination towards any human in modern society.

 

It is indeed a sad fact they are treated as second-class citizens, yes. But what do we do about it? Should we be intervening on their society and way of life and imposing western practice into their culture?

From what I remember you'll find plenty of instances where women are treated disgustingly, e.g. women unwillingly being tattooed all over their faces in South America in order to give them a gang identity (they're stuck with this for the rest of their lives and they do not choose to be in these gangs, they're killed if they don't).

 

I get what you mean, but even people in the Middle East think that this is going too far. There is a difference with what their culture is like, and what the Taliban imposed on them.

I'm working on a Gentleman's guide that hopefully will be up in a few days. It won't be much, but hopefully everyone here will read it, at least once, and become a little bit better of a person from it.

I've always found the statement "behind every strong man is a strong woman" false. If she really was strong, she'd never follow in his footsteps. If he was really strong, he'd slow down for her.

 

Well, women are treated alot better today then they were back in history. I mean, some societies would bury their female infant alive to safe "embarassment". (Some probably still do it today).

 

In some countries, if women show their faces in public they are stoned to death for adultery. There are many progressive nations in the world, but there's still a lot more work that needs to be done.

 

Look what happened in Vietnam, when America tried to impose Western Culture in the middle east.

The only way of changing this culture, would be to invade, and rule over the people. Which would cost money and a lot of lives.

I get your point, that women are treated awfully in the middle east and some parts of Africa, but there's simply not much we can do about it except for putting pressure on the governments to change.

 

I think their treatment of women is disgusting, and what I really hate is when I meet people from the middle east, who have the cheek to say that their women enjoy being treated like that. Like a woman would enjoy getting physically abused or getting acid thrown at their face.

 

Never actually heard of that, but if it's true, then that is quite extreme. Generally speaking though, it takes two to commit adultery, so i'd imagine both the woman and her partner would have to take equal blame.

I don't think middle-eastern person would say that. No woman (unless she had some weird fetish) would enjoy acid being thrown in her face. In regards to physical abuse, it's quite a problem in western countries as it may be in the middle east.

 

Imo this topic is really more about general women discrimination and not just the Taliban.

Not true at all. In Syria there was recently a woman on trial and sentenced to be stoned to death for showing her face in public. A man saw her, claimed she was attempting to seduce her, and she was punished accordingly. (She was in public without a burqa) and there is a law on the books in Syria that classifies it as adultery).

I do believe human rights groups intervened at that point, but it was down to the wire.

I would hardly call it modern society... gruesome killings that are ignored or sanctioned by a government or the ruling power.
